Satiate my GAS - Weird delay/noisemaker thing

I unfortunately missed the $150 echo degrader in BST! So bummed.

And I should mention I'm not totally stuck on delay. I really just want something time-based, with a weird edge. Weird tremolos? Sure! Weird verbs? Double sure!

+1 on the echo degrader, I bought the b/s/t one and it just arrived in the post. Its Amazing, but not small. But amazing.

Look at the red panda particle used around 250$. Granular delay/pitch shifter. Really amazing and inspiring pedal with unique sounds.

If the size didn't count (and frankly, any of the really good weird stuff has knobs and buttons and the like), I'd just grab a Digi Timebender and be done.

if you want a pre-dirt delay i'd more likely recommend something not too dark that will cut through more so you can actually make out the weirdness going on, i never really got the point of putting a really coloured tape-kinda delay pre-dirt, it always sounds muddy and bleh.

my vote will always go to the ibanez DML10. it's a clean digital delay that cuts through like nothing else and the modulation range is wider than anything i've ever heard. the clarinot/particle/DPP etc don't get anywhere near as wonky.

another option if you want dirt built in is a Noise Ensemble. really simple yet musical circuit, you have to adjust your playing a bit to control the oscillation but it's super inspiring.

That's right the deluxe pitch pirate is pretty wild too and worth a look see. I love the clai(not) into the deluxe pitch pirate as an almost go to for crazy modulation delay.

I'm definitely been considering building a noise ensemble. My vero skills aren't great but it doesn't seem that complex.

And yeah, the DML10 looks awesome but they're always hella pricey.

there are plenty of people around here that could build you one if you wanted anyway

i think i got my DML10 for like $70? people have been asking stupid prices on ebay etc for a while, but if you come across an auction they tend to never actually end very high so you just have to keep your eyes peeled i guess.

Hmmm I'll keep on checking then. Anybody fooled with the DBA Ghost Delay? I'm also toying with just getting an Alter Ego x4, and replacing my ditto and de7 with it and just calling that my delay section and getting a quirky mod/filter pedal for craziness.

I do like this circuit, but if OP isn't getting on with the Clarinot in this spot, I doubt the Noise Ensemble would work any better.

I love the ILFDD, but I'm not sure it's quite the thing for this job. Maybe. I think Red Panda has blem Particles on their site for $220 or $230. (I gotta have cash on hand to do that deal when it comes around again.)

If you have some inexpensive enough delays, it can be worth opening them to check if there are trimpots inside that you can tweak. To be safe, you can use a multimeter to check the resistance they were set to before. Some delay pedals use a trimpot to set the maximum delay time. If you change the value (just turning the trimpot, no real mod necessary), you can in some cases make the max delay time longer than what the pedal was designed for. In that case, whenever the delay time is set to a value that's "too long", there will be audio artifacts accumulating with each repeat. I did that ages ago with an old delay pedal I had, worked great for transitions during livesets (note : I make improvised electronic music, not guitar stuff).

Anyway, you might be able to get cool stuff from what you already have without needing to spend any money.
