Power Supply

Post by Andrew21502 »

What type and kind of power supply is everyone running? I've been wanting to get a power supply for my board, I've been using a daily chain for years.
I don't want to spend more than I need to, I've been looking at getting the MXR brick, Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

I used daisy chains for years and years. Recently got a Voodoo Labs 4x4 and I'm never looking back. I could probably gone for a cheaper model, but they had it in stock at local shop and it fits perfectly under my pedaltrain without mods...I'm lazy, ok?

Mostly use batteries, but I have a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ block, and i just picked up a visual sound 1 spot cause i needed higher 500ma supply for a pedal. no worries with either so far.

I user a Pedal Power 2+ which is more than enough. If I wanted to expand I might have to look into some other options.

I currently use an MXR Brick, most power for the money, but it is a bit messy. i have a bunch of zip ties on my board to keep it tidy.

+1 MXR. I't's cheap...

and shame on you UG. let's see... 187 pedals*9 volts/1.3 months... what is that like 800 dead dolphins a year?

actually i just keep ALL of my pedals hooked up all the time just in case so 1.3 months would be great, but I spend most of my free time just changing batteries.

I use a cheap Dano or Boss 9v adapter and daisy chains for anything that takes 9vdc

Works just fine but I don't have anything finicky.

A lot has batteries available as well, sometimes it's more convenient for stuff I don't plug in daily.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

The MXR brick is great for the money and will power a lot of pedals with short circuit/overload protection, but keep in mind it's not isolated so it won't really fix noise problems any more than a onespot.
I find very few pedals cause those kinda problems though so you might be fine, but it happens. Moogerfoogers and some strymon pedals in particular i find always need to be isolated.

I use a Cioks Ciokolate which i would recommend if the idea of spending $400 and then never having to worry about power again appeals to you, it's compact for what it is and insanely durable. I think it's definitely worth the extra over Voodoo Labs stuff.

The only thing I'm worried about with noise on the Brick is my DBA pedals. Any input if it makes them noisy?

I have Cioks AC10s on both of my pedalboards. Fucking fantastic supply, bulletproof and all the power I could ever need.

This!!!! Kind of sucked to buy a power supply instead of a pedal but in the long run it was great. Not one single issue so far.

I've had zero issues until i got a pedal that needed 500ma of current and the pedal power plus wasn't able to power it properly with its max 250ma.
