The pot totally makes a difference in tone. Somebody told me it would be minimal. This is not the case. The factory pot was very very trebly with toe down. It's very smooth now. Not piercing to the ears. I never usually go all toe down because it was so trebley.
When I tested i thought the movement was not correct the. I realized movement is great. Sounds nice.
Can't wait to see if the inductor does anything. :P

Re: Vox V847a mods

So all done. Used a desolder bulb to suck the solder up. Had to bend the Fasel to fit inside the Wah but it's in and solid!
No damage. Looks pretty good to me !
Definitely understand surface mount now too. After taking the circuit board out to work with the inductor, I saw the smt all over the bottom.
There are a couple things I guess a novice could add (workable size resistor or something) but I don't understand what it's for yet so I'll get more research done before.
Q control might be a nice one.
Tested. Sounds really nice. It's late. I want to put it on my pedal board to give it a good run tomorrow.
Thanks for the help folks.

Re: Vox V847a mods
I'm already wanting to play with another Wah.
I'm going to pick up a crybaby gcb95 for $40. Looks like a good deal as it already has the red fasel. It's not the gcb 95f either. I asked him about it and he sent pics. Either way. It's a win for me if it's as lightly used as he says. Appears to be different from my vox as it does not look to be smt.
Any input?

Re: Vox V847a mods
I like to scoop up $40 cry baby's on ebay and remove the guts to rehouse as a Q zone in a 1590BB. then I take the shell and add a DC jack, two pots, metal jacks, sometimes change the wah pot, then I stick something completely different inside. you can always build up a wah circuit from scratch. there are also inductorless wah circuits that can be built with parts on hand for cheap. any fuzz pedal that has 4 knobs you put two on the side, one as a trimmer.

Re: Vox V847a mods
I removed the McCon o pot and put in the Joe Gagan Smooth Pot 100k. It has a smaller gear with more teeth and it supposively gives a better controlled transition through the sweep. And it's sealed.
I have not plugged it in yet, but the mechanical action is absolutely fantastic. You can feel it with a couple quick kicks.
The McCon will go to the crybaby cause I'll probably get rid of that one seeing this vox just sounds incredible with a couple small changes.
I bought the vox new. And I definitely remember why.
After I get through all I want to do, I'll post a sound bite
