Favorite Suboctave Fuzz?
I recently flipped my second voice and I am definitely missing having an octave pedal on board. I used the second voice with the sub+5th up or down modes the most, like a crazy synth fuzz. But the suboctave alone wasn't very fat. I'm looking for something with a thick gnarly lower octave. And since we love fuzz, I'd love if it also had a fuzz option.
I've been eyeballing the LAL Gomorrah but I'm not sure if its a suboctave pedal or a square wave fuzz with lots of subharmonics.
Also been eyeing the Bit Commander pretty hard. I also wish I could find a Robot Devil, so if anyone has one...
Anyways, are there any I'm forgetting about? I'd prefer something I don't need a stroke of luck to obtain (SubT).

Copilot Mantis.
Thick and brutal. Not sure how it tracks on bass. Ask Adam at copilot.

Re: Favorite Suboctave Fuzz?
The bit commander is seriously good.
I really don't like that you can't control the gain or dirt character of it but its a minor thing really. I think the subs and octave down sound weird combined but if you mix a ton of one or the other with the dry signal and add a tiny bit of octave up it is seriously gnarly.
I don't think its the best sounding suboctave fuzz out there but i haven't found anything that is better functionally in a band setting. Everything else is either too noisy or doesn't sit well in the mix.
Another option is find a cheap MIT Boss OC-2 and pair it with your fuzz of choice. What i liked about that combo was that you could kick the octave on and the character of the sound would stay the same but it would just be deeper and fatter.

I got a Blue Box Modded to have a switchable C14 and 1/2 octave mods, as well as a SHO at the output stage to make it crazy loud. I wish it tracked lower on the neck, but other than that it's a pretty baller pedal.

I havent tried a ton of them but one that I do like a lot is the Foxrox Octron - though I have only messed with it using guitar.

Is the C14 the bright cap people clip to get some treble in it? I've been thinking of doing that to mine, I think opening up the high end would improve it. What's the half octave mod?ThurberMingus wrote:I got a Blue Box Modded to have a switchable C14 and 1/2 octave mods, as well as a SHO at the output stage to make it crazy loud. Yeah the C14 is the bright mod. The 1/2 is actually the "one-slash-two" octaves. You can toggle between one or two octaves down. Two down is a little more stable but the one down is more usable and yeilds some really cool 5ths and glitches. I highly recommend it.

Has anyone had good experience with the blue box on bass or bass VI?

Re: Favorite Suboctave Fuzz?
I should have specified that mine would be for bass as well. I don't mind that the Bit Commander doesn't have a gain control. I stax to the max anyways.
I thought about getting a clean sub octave pedal and just running it into my fuzz, but I can't help but want more fuzzies.
The BitCom and Gomorrah are still tops for me. Id like to try one of them before I commit the cash, but if i have the money and one pops up Ill snag it.
Always up for a temp trade though...

i can't speak for the bit commander on bass, haven't tried it enough to say for sure but it tracks very well on guitar as long as you use the neck pickup.
are you still running the Mini and BUZZZ? i find both those pedals after it are great for stacking, especially the Mini with the gain around 2-o'clock. smoothes it out and makes it nice and angry.

Granted I use a goofy fretless 60's bass, the Blue Box sounds really cool high on the neck, but not so exciting down low. It's really fun for Lightning Bolt jams!

I actually traded my Mini for a Mercy Phuk cause I wanted to try a different OD. I still have the Buzzz and a TAFM, both of which sound awesome after some sub octaves. Actually, the octave up Buzzz after a suboctave is crazy.backwardsvoyager wrote:i can't speak for the bit commander on bass, haven't tried it enough to say for sure but it tracks very well on guitar as long as you use the neck pickup.

The second voice wouldn't track past the 7th fret usually, so I got used to playing near the neck, and I pretty much always have the tone rolled back. Tracking I don't care so much about, as long as it brings the fatness.

Re: Favorite Suboctave Fuzz?
The Pitch Bay sounds pretty rad on bass, but I'm not sure if the gain structure is quite fuzz or distortion. So, I'm not quite sure it's what you're looking for. But when I let bass friend jam through it sounded so gnarly.
I'm not suggesting this because I have one for sale in B/S/T.
