ThurberMingus wrote:Somewhat related question - are Hondo IIs really that bad? There is one hanging from the wall in a local shop that can be had for a song and I thought it might be a good way to add some Les Paul to my mostly Fendery guitar collection (note: none of them are actually Fenders).

I feel like Pathfinders had a pretty big following a few years back. Makes sense that people would eventually remember and covet them.
In short, yes, hondo ii's are that bad. Cheap plywood crap. It's certainly not worth more than the song you could get it for. It is a les Paul in look only. They generally don't play or feel or sound like them in my experience. It's fine if you really need a really cheap guitar, but if your looking to add something les Paul like to your collection, I would look elsewhere.

I actually liked the little battery powered Pignose amp. The one that looks kinda like a lunchbox..........pretty decent tone.
Zappa used one a lot for the mic behind the speaker, honky tones.

I think those Orange Micro Terrors could become one in the future.
