Finishing up fresh board, in dire need of pedal advice...

Post by frigid midget »

Again, my main issue: Real Estate

Image

That's the old board, the fresh one is actually still just a concept, but this is what changed:

Gone: Fuzz God II, VMSD, RV7
Added: DL8, The Elements. Also want to add an ibanez ES-2 at some point, as well as some phaser (haven't decided yet, probably an old ehx small stone).

The new case/board is a bit bigger, and if I have to I can put the volume pedal off-board. Still, I could REALLY need some tips on how to downsize so I can manage to cram everything on one board, cause right now it seems like I'll have to make yet another big sacrifise:s
So fire way: Smaller versions of the same peds, clones with top mount jacks, 2 in 1 type solutions,...:idk:

There's not really anything on there I'm married to, except maybe the FZ-2 and Hotcake. The Turbotuner is just THE fastest and most accurate tuner out there imo, so I don't see myself replacing that one either. That doesn't leave much to really downsize I guess, but I'm sure there's a lot of pedals I don't even know about. So if you know of a more pedal board friendly alternative of what I'm using (or plan to use), lemme know please. Thanks.

Limitations are what keeps me from going bankrupt:s

If I didn't have any space/size restrictions, I'd end up selling my home and a kidney to fund my addiction:s

This.

Also, you could just take the tuner of the board? Use one of those clip on-tuners or something? I don't have a tuner on my board, as it takes up valuable fuzz real estate.

it doesn't look that bad to me really. if the VMSD/RV7/FG are gone then even with the new additions you'd have enough space to line them tightly side by side if the new board is a bit bigger surely? the ES2 isn't huuuge so worst case scenario you would be running the volume pedal off the board which is normal for a lot of people. might need a picture of what you have now to be of any more help. there are plenty of good small phasers. the Subdecay Baby Quasar comes to mind.

also as skully said, pancake jacks save a bit of space when you have a lot of side mounted jacks. basically all of your pedals are small save for the volume so unless there are equivalents with top mounted jacks or in silly little mooer enclosures there's not much to do there.

don't ditch stuff if you actually use it. i'm totally in the camp of making a board compact and all but i would never ditch an effect i use regularly just to save space, unless its for the purpose of fitting several just-as-good effects in the same space as one bigass box (*COUGH*moogerfooger*COUGH*)

Get a cioks power supply and mount it under a fuzz or something. Adapters and power strips eat pedal space.

Also, that board is fucking rad as is. I wouldn't do anything to it :thumb:
