I've owned a Thrashmetal and I've had a few rats, the tone controls on the two are not similar, the Thrashmetal has a standard high cut like on any guitar, a rat almost seems to work the opposite, the more highs get filtered out the louder and more awesome they get. A Thrashmetal to me sounds a lot like a DS-1 or MXR type distortion, very bright and crunchy, what disappointed me with it was it did not do heavy well [like a lot of "metal" pedals…] a rat will do heavy. That doesn't mean I don't want another Thrashmetal though..
A buddy of mine played bass with a Thrashmetal when we where teens. Worked nice for Motorhead covers.
I have a Black Noise that has served me well on bass in a punk band. Now it´s being used as an master noise maker in a friends industrial band.
It doesnt really suck if you keep the gain and tone before noon. I just used to dime everything, guess i am wiser now.
They seem like the perfect pedals for cramming into a sock, and using to bludgeon the living daylights out of some arsehole you catch trying to steal one of your "real" pedals off your board at a gig. Though I think the Tonelok pedals might be better for that purpose though.

Yeah thats why in the end I suggested the Tonelok pedals. They have a metal casings and also have sharper corners

Well, its awhile since this thread started but I now have a PL-5 Powerlead on my board, along with the modded TS-5,60's FUZZ and TR-5 Tremolo.
The powerlead has the gain range of a MIJ DS-1 but it sounds alot better and more amp-like with tons more output and no ice-picky trebel.Not sure what its based on but it sounds like a hot-rodded Marshall Gov'nor mated with a DS-1..sort of. I prefer it to my TM-5 thrashmetal with its RAT-like mids, the powerlead is a bit more compressed and smoother. Rocking 4 soundtanks in this day of boutique dirt boxes just appeals to my 80's punk sensibility [even though I've mellowed to playing R&B and reggae.] I've tried a large percentage of all available dirt boxes over the years, but couldnt be happier than with my current board.

I kind of agree, as far as the sound tank pedals, but de-7 is from the tonelok series. Great pedal. And cheap.

I got a modern fusion soundtank a while back.. it's metal, was $45 and wicked good… just say'n
joining the 'thrashmetal was my first pedal' crowd. I used it on bass. Looking back I probably sounded like lightning bolt before they were a band but yeah...not good.
