ThurberMingus wrote:Somewhat related question - are Hondo IIs really that bad? There is one hanging from the wall in a local shop that can be had for a song and I thought it might be a good way to add some Les Paul to my mostly Fendery guitar collection (note: none of them are actually Fenders).

I feel like Pathfinders had a pretty big following a few years back. Makes sense that people would eventually remember and covet them.
In short, yes, hondo ii's are that bad. Cheap plywood crap. It's certainly not worth more than the song you could get it for. It is a les Paul in look only. They generally don't play or feel or sound like them in my experience. It's fine if you really need a really cheap guitar, but if your looking to add something les Paul like to your collection, I would look elsewhere.

Peavy was always working man and budget minded…Hipsters need a patina of rarified air for a thing to be desirable.

Already starting to happen I think. I've been looking for a Peavey Stereo Chorus locally but the ones I've found have been waaay overpriced. I think it's starting to filter down from the prices going up on the T-60s.

My buddy had a Kalamazoo Model 2 which is pretty similar. May be the same except it had a tremolo. It was a really nice little bedroom amp. I really liked the sound.

sergiomunoz74 wrote:I actually love my bass pathfinder that I use for my guitar with the headphone out connected straight into my peavey PA. It sounds mad clear and lush, I'm actually thinking of taking the preamp out of it and try to place it on a new pedal board so I can just gig with my pedal board.
Are they actually any good for playing bass at low volumes?

I got my brother one of those Kalamazoos for Christmas and it sounds really cool for garage rock and trash blues. It HATES pedals though.

They'll catch on to Peavey stuff eventually, when I moved here in '98 it was Doom Central if you went by today's take on the gear.

SS Sunns as far as the pawn eye could see, $50. Dust a mile deep.

All that METAL waiting to escape the store, and nobody to buy them!

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

Yeah. Massive vintage Sunn half stack in a pawnshop in my wife's home town in rural Montana circa 2002. Big Bottle tubes…$400. I had just graduated from art school and didn't have two nickels to rub together…still bummed...

My first bass amp back in the mid 80's was a gorilla. Plugged my MIK Torch Fender P bass copy in and I was a rock god. A legend in my own lunchbox. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories rfurtkamp. :thumb:
