Fuzz with no attack?

Post by ThurberMingus »

I'm looking for a fuzz pedal that has no attack, where the notes run into each other like a monophonic synth.

Pretty much exactly the tone that happens at 3:22 in this song:

How is it done? This is gonna be for solos and leads in my fictional shoegaze band with my girlfriend, so budget options are always welcome!

I'm terrible at this game, but I could get the gestalt with a fuzz war and kill kill filter. Also reminds me of Mountainking Electronics.

Edit: never mind, next time I'll listen first.

Also interested now. Really cool tone.

That's really the quintessential fuzz tone really, reminds me of an oscillating fuzz with just enough going on to thicken and smear everything. The SHOE silver apple does this great.

The Year 4545 can do it (or at least the one I had did). I'm thinking I had a couple of devi pedals that did the same sound too, but the details escape me (gone through alot of fuzz since then). The LAL Super-Oscillo Fuzz can do it too, but that's hardly a budget choice.

Year 4545 is out of production right? I really need to get some SS/BS stuff. Badly. The Terminal has also been intriguing me as well. Also need some EQD stuff, I need to support the builders around here more. It's FY-2 based right? I always wanted an FY-2 but I know I would play "Just Like Honey" and never use it for my original music. That niche is kind of filled by my Super Fuzz :!!!:

I feel like there HAS to be a Devi that can do this, but which one?

I'd recommend The Bit by Devi Ever:

i think so
the fy-2 and fy-6 sound nothing alike, so best to be able and use them both :thumb:
only devi i use is the truly beautiful disaster and it can do it but that would be kinda silly

The Bit... How does it stack? How does it sound with tons of reverb and delay?

And yeah, I know the FY-2 and FY-6 are quite different, I'll keep an eye open for a cheap companion.

Hmm, I'm not sure, In don't think it's an oscillating fuzz but apart from not having much attack it has this nastyness in the upper midrange that's quite special.
Indeed DBA pedals seem to have these kind of qualities or maybe a tricked out Muff variant of some sorts.
From your description alone I'd have said the Fuzzhugger Great Wall / Fuzz Huger right away but I don't think you can get this special midrange out of it, it's way more woolly or filtery.
Devi Ever pedals, I dunno, this is quite a powerful sound and mostof those Devi Ever pedals can't bring it I think, too weak.
The Bit is nice though but I didn't think it had this kind of sustain or again this special midrange quality.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

i don't either, but it reminds me of lightly dialing in some oscillation to add fullness and textures. i love doing that with most oscillating fuzz, staying away from the wild pitch action and just dialing in some to fill in the gaps and fatten up the tone.
