in the delay mode, does the akai headrush e2 take off progressively more and more treble once you have set the tone control (with each set of repeats), or just set the tone and it stays at that level and all the repeats have the same treble amount?

It will keep the same tone.You use the "tape echo" mode to accomplish the opposite.
At least on the E1 model, but AFAIK, it's pretty much the same pedal except by the delay/loop time available and the fact that you can change modes by pressing both switches simmoultaneously.
