dirt pre and post verb/delay

Post by PeteeBee »

What does everyone like for dirt pre and post reverb and delay? Or maybe you split those up with some sort of dirt-reverb-dirt-delay-more dirt type of club sandwich?

I've heard great reviews of the TAFM towards the end of everything because of the blend knob. That makes sense to me.
I've posted this picture before, but everything is better with pictures so:
Image

I added a MXR custom badass 78 after everything pictured and I really dig it, which is weird because I think that pedal sounded less than mediocre any other way I've tried it.

So just looking for ideas and preferences that are a little different and more interesting than TDPRI and TGP

*Sorry about the weird image code stuff. I don't internet super fluently and I'm not concerned about it.

I liked the Mini post-reverb with the bias down. Nice lo-fi atmosphere.

Most ss/bs sounds baller after verb. Its like the vibe of the pedal has been blown out, whicj can be pleasing (mini, fuck), whirring (tafm), or into some pretty noisey territory (BUZZZ).

Highly recommended for whatever vibe you're going for.

I have a verb in the middle of my dirt board. Much dirt. 11 pedals.

Then a delay at the end of that, then a preamp with more dirt, then an amp that has dirt and verb and delay as an option, and another pair of amps with verb and a rack of crap.

I need a roadmap to get around my patchbay these days.

This was super helpful. I have bee wondering about the different characters of the ss/bs stuff. Interesting. Now it's just thinking about the difference between pleasing and whirring.

my favourite way of setting it up is: distortion -> fuzz -> reverb -> overdrive -> delay

i like how verb sounds before fuzz too but overall i find that's the most useful combination assuming there's only one of each kind of pedal on the board (maybe unlikely around here )

truth. can attest that these all play nicely after reverb depending on the vibe you're going for. i use the mini after verb all the time and it just makes it angrier and more smeared. super super recommend using a reverb with trails so you have the option to morph between a more defined sound and a more smeared one. it's a lot of fun

Lately I've been going dirt->reverb L->dirt-> reverb R-> delay or looper. Still playing with which dirt goes where. Right now I'm running a Rat out front and a HM2 in the verb's "loop." It's gritty harmonics, feedbacky, and glorious.

I've settled on verb > drive (a mini, incidentally) > delay > fuzz > delay/looper. i like delay after reverb so the repeats are more distinct.

I like a bright octave fuzz after reverb. Sounds broken in the good way. I run fuzzes -> delay -> reverb -> octave fuzz -> moar delay.

I always like a dirt verb dirt verb sandwich. Got to have the multiple options. In my chain the constant I keep is that the algal bloom haaaas to be after a verb because it sounds amazing post verb.

I don't really dig dirt after delay that much, I don't feel like it adds anything. :idk:

I have a Devi Ever OK after the gated setting on my Digiverb, total glitchy stutter reverb. I imagine the Elements would be sweet after reverb or delay due to its blend and ridiculous EQ possibilities.

Its not as easy to make the TAFM sound as subtle as the fuck, the TAFM has a more varied texture, so messing with the fuzz, pregain, and gate will yield some pretty fuzzy textures. I say whirring because the shape knob is almost like the filter on a synth in the way that the frequencies are pronounced whe. You adjust it.

The fuck/mini can be more subtle and is generally more of a solid mass when post verb and the gain is cranked in my opinion. Sounds very good.

You can get more vatiation in their sound by utilizing the bias knob on the mini for more scuzziness, or the crackle on the fuck which can eother go full on blowing up in the high mode or cut the signal out in the low mode. The crackle is envelope controled so you can adjust how much cutting out or blowing up you get. If I remember correctly a signal that just hot as all hell with tons of gain may not be able to be tamed as well using the crackle feature, but that shouldn't be a huge issue.
