The Husker Du records sound terrible IMO (any records produced by Spot sound terrible to me). So it seems crazy to me that anybody would want to emulate that sound. Also, he used Fender open-back amps (somebody said Marshall amps, that is wrong. Maybe later Bob Mould did, but not in Husker Du). Live, they were incredibly sonic - the guitar was lively and seemed to bounce around inside your head - and much different than the albums, which sound very dead to me.
