EHX Flanger Hoax
I have had one for almost 2 years, I do enjoy the pedal but still feel that I have not unlocked the full potential of it.
I mainly use it for this strange...phaser/wah type effect that can be dialed up to this wet, bubbly sounding trem.
Experiences with this pedal, tips, tricks, advice, settings?

I like to use it as a over the top phaser that can go through- zero depending where the mode switch is set, turning the feedback up just before it self oscillates makes for some great distorted garbles as it goes through the sweep
I also use it as a dirty clangy ring mod, and an oscillator. Will post some clips when I get home.

Re: EHX Flanger Hoax
My biggest recommendation with the FH is always to go read this site first, it explains exactly what all of the controls are doing: http://www.modezero.com/flanger-hoax.htm
As for how I used it, it was usually one of three ways:
1.) For it's standard thru-zero flanger effect, which was the main reason I wanted it. I'd usually turn the phasers on as well, to make the swoosh even bigger. To get this, put the delay mode to 1 or 3, and then just play with the delay amount knobs until you get that sucking thru-zero sound. Add in the phasers if you like.
2.) As a frozen flange effect, like the filter matrix on the old Electric Mistress. For this one, put the delay mode to "DC", and then play with the delay amount knobs until the flange is frozen in the frequency you want.
3.) Insane self-oscillating noise-fest, usually for intros, outros or interludes between songs. This was just a matter of random knob twiddling until the thing took off on its own. By playing with the feedback and the swept phaser controls, you can get some ridiculous bassy swoops that distort the shit out of the signal.

Cool, it's always been my peripheral but I've never heard it. I don't care for YouTube clips except from ilfers.UncleBBQ wrote:I'll have to check, I'm sure there are some recordings of my band where I am using it.Uncle Grandfather wrote:any clips of how you use it?UncleBBQ wrote:I have had one for almost 2 years, I do enjoy the pedal but still feel that I have not unlocked the full potential of it.

Still working on clips in the meantime here's an old video showing the first setting I described (gurgly filter-phase sound):
