What do you guys use for live looping?
My guitar player is looking for a pedal to use for live looping. Needs to be affordable (rules out pigtronix, boomerang, etc). Needs to have easy overlay and start/stop functions, and needs to have a decent ammount of loop time (i.e. no DL4s).
The headrush was brought up, but idk, it seems pretty shitty/bulky to me. (What do you guys think?) I suggested either the Ditto X2 or just your standard Boss RC_____.
Anyway, do any of you guys do live looping? What works for you? GO!

I've tried a ton of loopers, but my favorites for live stuff are DL4, DD7, and DL8
DL4 for complex stuff, DD7 for compact layers with tons of dirt, and DL8 for true stereo

Re: What do you guys use for live looping?
I liked the Ditto as far as loop time and the switch action goes, seemed to stack well too. If they want a separate stop footswitch they probably can't go wrong with an X2 and its affordable for what it is. Sort of a no-brainer over the normal ditto unless board space is an issue.
The Boss ones aren't bad but they're kinda overpriced and those footswitches are kinda annoying to use.
My all-time favourite is Timeline with a DMC controller but that's far from affordable and only makes sense if you want the delays too.

Re: What do you guys use for live looping?
If you want something like the Ditto I can't recommend the express xt more. Same functions, except when you want to delete a loop it doesn't automatically play the loop for two seconds. It's slightly larger, but where both have side-mounted jacks it doesn't make a huge difference anyway. Also, you could add multiple perfectly synced loops with other digitech loopers via their jamsync function.
Although, if you're looking for something that's easier to use (i.e. no double-tapping nonsense for overdubbing/stopping), it'd probably be worth it to look into something a bit bigger like one of the full-size Jammans or the boss rc-20/30. The ditto x2 might be cool if they fixed the problem with deleting loops.

I use an RC-20 with my one man band. It doesn't work as well when jamming with others, but the one-shot feature can address that, but it limits you to one layer.

I use a DL4 for quick samples and 1/2 speed tricks, and a Headrush E2 for looping. Simple, sounds great, and it's built like tank. It's just big...

Yeah, my Ditto is probably my favorite part of my board...but that's probably because I don't know anybody who has the time to jam.
I want a Ditto X4, something to compete with your boomerangs and your infinities, minus the gargantuan price tag.

I give it 6 more months. I'm sure its in the pipeline. Will probably be announced the day after I buy an X2.Inconuucl wrote:Yeah, my Ditto is probably my favorite part of my board...but that's probably because I don't know anybody who has the time to jam.![]()

X2 is a good size, I think.

Re: What do you guys use for live looping?
Been using a basic ol' Digitech big 2 footswitch Jamman since it came out in '06 or so. 6 hours or something ridiculous loop time, no tap dancing to make one button do six things, etc. Handles very high headroom signals.
Cheap used.

The ditto X2 doesn't play loops if you're deleting it, unless you want it to. you can delete loops with the 2ndary switch by double tapping it. It won't play while you delete unless you use the record switchwfs1234 wrote:The ditto x2 might be cool if they fixed the problem with deleting loops.

Re: What do you guys use for live looping?
I would check into one of the Jamman loopers.
The dual foot switch would be good and also the stereo if he wanted to save multiple loops and recall them later. (you can do it with the regular two foot switch but having dedicated switches for it makes it easier in my opinion. only downside is you sacrifice space)

I used the looping function on my DD-20, but I hated it. Haven't had a looper pedal since. Ditto or DL4 might be sneaking on to my GAS-list shortly.
