fuzz pedals with active and passive pickups

Post by Pete »

So I wanted to get your guys' thoughts on this subject. I've read that generally fuzz pedals sound best with single coil pickups, but is that mainly the case for vintage
germanium fuzzes? The only fuzz pedal I have at the moment is a MXR blue blue which I love. The fuzzes I'm most interested in acquiring are from Devi Ever and Fuzzhugger. I also really want a Blackout Effectors Crystal Dagger and Death By Audio Soundwave Breakdown.

I currently play a guitar with Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine Livewire active pickups. Any idea if Devi Ever/Fuzzhugger/Blackout Effectors/Death By Audio fuzz would sound OK with active pickups? Basically more modern silicon fuzz. I'm hoping to get another guitar soonish with passive humbuckers. One guitar I'm eyeing comes stock with Seymour Duncan SH1N/TB4 pickups. The pickups that sound best with the fuzz pedals I'm interested in, would probably be the determining factor in choosing which guitar would be my main guitar. Anyone know/can guess how well these pickups would pair with fuzz? Thoughts about humbuckers with fuzz, in general? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

i'm sure you will be fine with those fuzzes. It is mainly vintage or based on vintage fuzzes that don't like the low impedance pickups. just do your homework on the fuzzes you want to see what they were based on and you will be ok.
