I don't think it matters anymore, everyone seems to be posting bands that started before 2000, but continued to make music through/into the decade.
in that case:

Yeah, I totally screwed up because my two nominations started in '99 and '98 respectively. Then my "oh whoops I screwed up" nomination (The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band) started in 1999 as well!
Apparently this requires further research. Oh, and cheers for someone mentioning Autolux (began in 2000), because it's finally time I started listening to them, especially since Failure were CLEARLY the greatest band from the '90s. Well, tied for #1 with Acid Bath anyhow.

Well wait a sec, "Best Band of the Decade" doesn't necessarily imply that the band had to have formed this decade, just who's best based on their work in the decade. Here's my shot at it, with as little thought put in as possible. Forgive me for being relatively mainstream.
Tool The Mars Volta Radiohead Nine Inch Nails Electric Wizard Interpol The Hives Muse Autechre Juno Reactor

In that case I'm going to finalize this list of lists and be done with it:
Kayo Dot (Choirs of the Eye) Jerry Cantrell (Degradation Trip vols. 1 & 2) Tool (Lateralus) Drudkh (Autumn Aurora) Hammers of Misfortune (The August Engine) Neurosis Silver Mt. Zion Old Man Gloom Deathspell Omega Agalloch Colour Haze Electric Wizard Enslaved Yakuza Sunn O))) Unida Ufomammut Ulver Nine Inch Nails King Crimson ISIS John Frusciante Mammatus Rwake
Those are all groups that put out amazing work since 2000, the first five of which having released what I consider utter masterpieces. In the years to come, several albums from these groups may eventually reveal their innate perfection to me. Or something.
