Jazzmaster… Moonblaster

Post by wildebelor »

Built up a Jazzmaster over the past few weeks with a J Mascis Squier body and a Neck I saved that actually turned out to be amazing once I finished it.

After about 3 hours of playing, I removed the guard and rusted, stained and screwed the pick guard so it looked like it was 100+ years old.

Loved it, but the thick white poly was pissing me off!
What do I do? Stripped it over a matter of hours - wasn't too bad but I don't think I'd ever do it again.

So now it's stained walnut, like the headstock.
I've also ordered a black pick guard as I found the rusted guard was too 'busy' for the walnut / wood grain (saving it for another jm build)
Added white witch hat guards, chromed pickup covers AND something very cool.
I've anchored the low E string in the trem plate so I can keep it droning whilst I use the trem!
Almost ready to put it together...

BUT I'VE JUST HAD A REVELATION

If I purchase a legacy neck from warmoth, shave the sides of the headstock and remove the weight in the centre of it - I have my favourite headstock shape!

:excellent:

...or get an EGC neck for it!

Are you familiar with this guy's work? If you are getting a custom built neck, he's reasonable and in your neighborhood, or at least same hemisphere: http://www.honeyteaandmaplewood.com

Yeah, he was surprisingly reasonable when I was talking with him about a custom neck.

It was a mix of sanding, staining, acid washes, and repeat / reverse processes until I was satisfied.
I am really happy with how it turned out - looks much better in person!
