I like it. I would probably get one if it had 6 strings. I want a VI but i wouldn't use the tremolo and don't like the switching setup on it. For a 4-string SS i'm happy with my mustang bass.

looks sick. I don't really like short scales though. I'd rather have a bigger bass. just preference. if this was a baritone i'd be saving money

Yeah, I saw the Custom Shop model online as well and loved it instantly. They went with a satin finish on that one. Still out there I think on the Thomann site priced at €7499!univalve wrote:Funny, i saw this bass as a custom shop model at Musikmesse on the april 11th 2013. Hmmmm... while I prefer long scale, there is something cool about short scale, especially when paired with fuzz. I could get with this!
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

But 3 out of 5 noobs call a Bass VI a Bass IV. The confusion would be apocalyptic.

they're really good for my style with lots of power chords and stuff like that, but i must say the P/J scale's resistance grew on me

I'm picking my Rascal up at UPS tmrw so I'll let you dudes know how it is. Plan to throw a set of medium LaBellas on it, 45-110, go from there. Excited tho, high expectations.

Pffft, it's already the sixth. I knew this dude was a liar. The Dunwich, Science amp, Emperors, Matson, dope-ass blue Les Paul, all someone else's photos. The guy is a big phony.Holy Schnikes wrote:I'm picking my Rascal up at UPS tmrw so I'll let you dudes know how it is. Plan to throw a set of medium LaBellas on it, 45-110, go from there. Re: Fender Rascal Bass
So I'm loving this bass after spending a few days getting to know it. Very similar to my old Bass VI obviously with dimensions and feel being near identical minus two strings. Build quality, fit, finish, and hardware are all top notch, absolutely no complaints. Sets up perfectly, plays wonderfully, stays in tune, and the pickups/switching is super cool.
I prefer the lipstick pickups to the Jaguar-style used on the Bass VI honestly. They sound fuller and more well balanced. Plenty of thick low end punch and some really nice highs to boot and a total lack of mud in all settings. The bridge is present with a nice growl and things just get warmer and rounder as you head towards the neck pickup but clarity does not suffer. The combo (bridge + middle and neck + middles) positions are very unique, almost acoustic/piano like in quality. The push pull neck + bridge setting is pretty aggressive and the "all 3" setting is surprisingly mellow and smooth. Tons of versatility with this wiring scheme and they love all the fuzz/dirt I've tried thus far.
I prefer short scale basses so this feels right at home to me. Comes stock with a set of Fender strings gauged 45-65-80-100 and tension feels perfect in E standard. Plan to order some heavier strings eventually and tune down a 1/2 step.
Here's a couple of shitty pics while I'm at it. The Ocean Turquoise looks gorgeous in person and goes very well with the pearl guard, chrome, and dark rosewood board.

Yeah, I used to hate this feature but all it takes is slacking the strings, throwing a capo on, removing neck, making a quick adjustment, and replacing the neck so I just learned to deal. My guitars don't require much in the way of truss adjustment either, all are very stable. Every Fender I own uses the heel truss adjustment unfortunately, not sure why they go that route so frequently. To hell with vintage correctness is what I'd prefer.wafl wrote:And I'm outHoly Schnikes wrote: vintage-style heel-end truss rod adjustment
