Vox V847a mods

This is much different from previous model of. 847. At least from what I've read online and instructive webpages have showed me.

^ You kind of answered your own question a little earlier. Yours is an 847A, which is very different from the 847. The 847 is a modder's dream. The 847A, on the other hand, is notoriously difficult. because of the SMD components. But there are mods available, including true bypass. Just make sure you search for the 847A specifically.

Maybe I don't understand. But I can't see how these particular mods have any surface mount.

Perhaps someone could post a pic to these specific with explanation.

To me it looks straightforward. But by the comments here, I'm beginning to feel like I'm missing something.

The mods you are planning on doing don't involve them, If all your doing is swapping the inductor and converting to true bypass you're fine...That will be straightforward based on the links above referencing the V847-A... Just take your time removing the old inductor and use a solder wick.... The smd issue only comes into play if you want to try some of the other mods listed in the link I posted earlier which mostly revolve around changing caps, resistor values or adding potentiometers to tweak the sound... Most people are just saying getting an older model would allow you to try out other mods and experiment more then you can with the model you have.

Thing is, the inductor mod and true bypass really won't do a whole lot to the pedals tone. Like it will help a touch but not worth the time and effort IMO.

I like my Wah but the pot is toast.

So since I'm already doing some minor upgrades, might as well make a couple other ( highly recommended all over the net) upgrades for fun!

I've heard swapping this particular inductor out will make a fairly noticeable difference.

Any improvement will be great. Even functioning the way it did 8 years ago would be fine.

Since it appears nothing I'm attempting is surface mount... I should be ok.

Parts ordered from Small Bear electric.

Had to as I wanted the McCon-o-pot and it's hard to find. Even the makers eBay store is sold out of them.

Also ordered the red fasel and carling true bypass switch.

Steven at Small Bear called me directly to discuss my choices and ensure I ordered what I needed. Even asked my reasoning behind certain choices and switch specifically , offered alternate brands that were led capable. I'm not interested in messing with things too much and so I'll pass on an led for now.

Ok. The switch is in. That alone removed all the static I was getting.

I was advised to check each as I install. Good advice. It's good to know that a true bypass really is the shit !

Now the pot. It was a suspected scratchy pot issue at the start... Probably has a little scratch but not like I had before changing out the switch. Soooo ... This highly recommended pot, the mccon-o-pot, should just make the pedal a little clearer.

Most mods said this one sucked due to the pcb on the top. I tin snipped it off close to the pot leaving the tabs connected to the pcb (pcb... Do I have that correct?).

Anyhow. I soldered the new pot to the tabs. Saving a tedious job of unsoldering it.





It's a great looking pot. Heavy.

I just found out he made a sealed pot. Being released very soon.
