Grand Orbiter vs Sibling

Post by larsbars »

I've never spent a significant amount of time with a phaser, always thought they were cheesy sounding, but lately I've been reconsidering my stance. Both the EQD Grand Orbiter and the Blackout Sibling seem rad. Any thoughts on these two?

Never tried the sibling, but I got a grand orbiter recently and I'm really enjoying it. Phat sound, pretty wide variety of tones.

I've had a Sibling, its pretty good. i liked the sounds i could get from it, but i think you'd get more possible sounds from the Grand Orbiter. plus, with the new Grand Orbiter there's no difference in size.

I've had both
Id say the grand orbiter is more gooey, thick sounding?
The sibling is great but also cuts out some low end when the mix is up too high

I mean really, you can't go wrong with either one
Sibling is bare bones, has a level boost, ring mod
Grand orbiter is a little more tweakable and in my opinion sounded just a little better with fuzz

The Grand Orbiter plays ridiculously well with fuzz. Too huge.

Can't wait for my V2 to arrive monday.

Thicker modulation tends to sound less cheesy to my ears, the orbiter wins there too. Basically, get one.

I'm super-stoked for the V2 Grand Orbiter. Love the new size, LED and fixed mode.

That sounds awesome.

But like people are saying, the grand orbiter is so fat with fuzz, it's the thickest sounding phaser I've ever used I think. mmmm

Fat, thick, fuzz? I really can't ignore that combination of words. Plus that v2 looks rad.

I don't know about the sibling but the grand orbiter is the only phaser I've found a use for. The layout is simple but you can really get a huge range of sounds, subtle or wild.

I think the sibling sounds better on faster settings
Although when you roll the depth back you get some nice subtle swooshes

I have a Grand Orbiter on the way and this thread has me all the more stoked. Its replacing my Depths Vibe which sounded great for clean/overdrive but horrible with fuzz. The Orbiter sounds like it will retain clarity with a lot of distortion and not flub out. Plus the Depths, even at its slowest setting, was too fast for my taste.
