An HH fixed-bridge Jaguar isn't a Jaguar at all, it's an offset guitar with too many switches.

except a friend of mine has one of the black and chrome ones and it's one of the best playing guitars i've ever messed with

I guess one could get busy with a router and change the HH to Jazz Master pickups,
That might help a little.
