Help me diagnose this oscillating fuzz!!

A while back I built up a point to point double Bazz fuss. It has a momentary osc switch. The problem is it oscillates all the time when on EXCEPT when it is opened. I've double checked all my grounds and they seem fine. It's worth noting that the osc pot also affects the volume of the signal even when the momentary isn't pressed. Also the knobs and foot switch are mounted on the "bottom" of the enclosure while the jacks an do adapter are on the "top"....the case is upside down like Mantic stuff. Any ideas? I'll post a shitty diagram of how it's wired later.

And I've poked around with my hands trying to make it oscillate but no dice. It only does it when the enclosure is fully closed. Even connecting the two sides with an alligator clip won't force it. It needs to be totally closed up. Strange.

I'm no builder, but is one of the components touching the backplate when you close it?

The enclosure lid might be shorting something out. Cover the inside of the lid with electrical tape and see what happens.

Nothing seems to be touching. And if the enclosure lid was shorting something out, wouldn't connecting the lid to the other half also short it out? It's obviously something is creating a feedback loop, I just can't for the life of my figure out what. Could it be something with not using shielded wire?

Something is pushing up against something else. It doesn't take much. And no, connecting the lid and bucket with an alligator clip will not replicate the problem because the problem is a mechanical/physical failure. The lip of the lid touching a jack or pushing a wire into an odd place where it crosses over a high gain area, acting like an antenna, injecting noise into your project.

+1 on physical stuff.....I had a similar intermittent issue awhile ago and it turned out to be a bad pot that was only having issues when the wires running to it were a certain way pushing on the lugs lightly.
