Solderless caaaables

Post by billymick »

Which ones are you guys using and who to avoid? I was loving the idea of the Bullet SLUG cables as they look super easy and durable, but they're sold out everywhere I look. Knowledge me!

I fucking hate them all. Seriously. Fuck George L and Lava for sure.

Soldered is the way to go my friend.

Yeah, I had almost typed this earlier, but I didn't. But Jwar said it. If you are someone who has a SET pedal board, that doesn't change, ever, ever. Go with solderless. But if you're someone who likes to experiment, move pedals around, plug and unplug, you're going to run into a decent amount of headaches. I once bought some Lavas, and I could not, for the life of me, get them to last for more than a few days without having to go back in and make sure the jacks were sitting properly.

I currently have about 2 Lavas that I still use. They are on my gig board, which hasn't changed in almost 9 months

I use Lava solderless on my main board. They're so small and cute, and I usually don't move stuff around on that board. That being said, I've been through hell making the fuckers. Several attempts, failures etc. And they do cost a bit. Do I think they sound "better" than other cables? No idea.

I bought solderless lavas and have had nothing but headaches as well. Sometimes if not set properly there is tone loss and if you have 13 pedals out it is a nightmare to work out which is the broken one. I do move pedals a lot though so they were handy... but seriously I can't be arsed making them any more... think I have a full set left too. The small cables/footprint was good though.

The only solderless I ever tried was George L, and had about an 80% failure rate within a year. I will never try a solderless cable ever again.

Now I just buy bulk cable and the GLS pancake plugs and roll my own. It's cheaper and never once had one fail on me yet.

I use lava solderless still. But my board almost never ever changes. Like others have said, if your board never changes once you get it dialed in they are awesome. If you tend to swap out pedals then avoid them for sure. Once I really figured out how to build them I've had zero issues but before I took the time to get it down to a science I would have a few issues here and there.

Also the reason you can't find bullet cables is I believe that company is done and over. They stopped updating their site quite a while ago and kinda just went silent.

There is nothing more reliable than soldered. If they are done properly.

Add me to the list of people that found the Lava solderless kit to be a pain in the ass.

i bought a pack of those bullet solderless once. i can't remember if you were supposed to get 4 or 5 usable cables out of the kit, but when it was all done, I only had 1 that worked worth a damn. the rest were shorting out like crazy - I also think one broke after I gave it a dirty look. i returned that crap in a heartbeat. beware.

Wow thanks for the feedback guys, I need to just hanker down and buy several soldered cables then. What brands do you guys use that are already made?
