First off, I hate strats. The body shape, the sound, the players who play them -- I just really can't hang with them at all. That said, I'm not going to turn down a free guitar. SO what should I do to/with it? Freaky stuff. Weird stuff. I want something unique. I have a JM for my weirder sounds, a tele for my standard sounds, and a baritone for them lowz. What other niche could I fill? I'd love to make it a twelve string but that's a wee bit pricey. What other crazy shit could I do to this hideous, no good, very bad guitar?

My girlfriend works at a record store and someone left a Squier Strat there for 2 months. They never came back so it's mine now. It's not one of the nice ones, definitely a player's pack deal.

i would like, remove all the electronics except the middle pickup and the output jack, then string it with like three or four strings tuned to roughly the same note, then use a power drill with a pick attached to play it.

You could string it up with 6 string baritone strings to get that kind of baritone feel going on. Add weird octave strings, trem.

Octave strings are a definite. I'm toying with stringing it up for nashville tuning AND adding octave strings on the top 3.

Find an underprivileged kid with the desire to play guitar, but without the means to get one. Give the kid the guitar. Maybe change his/her life.colossus wrote:That said, I'm not going to turn down a free guitar. SO what should I do to/with it?
How many of us were gifted our first guitar?

I'd say learn more about wiring or painting, but gifting it to someone who wants to learn but lacks the means sounds way better.

Gifting it is a great idea! I'll probably do that. I mean, I really don't NEED another guitar. I literally finished a new one on the day this was given to me!

It needs a middle humbucker.
Things I want and do not have: A decent microphone for my amp, someone/something to play drums for me, and most of the things I see on this forum.

That's a great idea. If you don't really like it or need it, pass it on to someone who will. You could create the next guitar superstar. And give yourself some good karma in the process.Mike wrote:Find an underprivileged kid with the desire to play guitar, but without the means to get one. Give the kid the guitar. Seriously, though, if you want to keep it and play it, keep it and play it. I am not one to talk-- I am up to almost 20 guitars now.

Have you seen what I did to a squier strat?
It wasn't even a strat - it was a starcaster!
I got it playing really good though.
Totally saveable. (stock starts suck!)
Made it into a pseudo TB500 - so much better now.
Seriously, cost me well under $200 all up.
