Re: Which oscillating delay?
I just picked up an ibanez ES2 and I'm loving it, esp the switchable oscillation. Not sure if that's outside of your size requirements or not, but it's really not as big as it looks in pics, and it's got the top mounted jacks. I'm sure the Moog is better, but it's also $50+ more, so depending on how much of a concern cost is, I've seen used ES2's all over in the $120-130 range.

Re: Which oscillating delay?
Just mpo, but I think you made the right choice. I can't even tell how much better the moog is, but just based on what I read it's a no-brainer for someone on a tight budget. Tap tempo switch, $50 cheaper, 1000ms vs 650ms. And ofcours: Wooden side panelzzzzifeellikeatourist wrote:I just picked up an ibanez ES2 and I'm loving it, esp the switchable oscillation. I'm seriously thinking of picking one up myself. I'm sure my new incoming DL8 will easily meet most my delay needs, but my board just ins't complete without that analog oscillation mojo
Btw, it looks the ES2 had another little perk, hopefully you can comfirm this: Is the delay time easily controlable with your foot/toes? Is that fader durable enough to withstand that sort of occasional toe action? Probably a dumb question, cause it actually looks like that fader is put there for this exact reason

Re: Which oscillating delay?
Tap tempo is another feature that really sealed the deal for me. Not many analog delays out there that offer tap tempo, and ones that do (like deluxe memory boy) are much pricier than the ES2. As far as controlling the slider with your foot? Not something I have tried yet...it's nice and big, so I'm sure it's possible, but If you did it on a regular basis, I'm not sure how well it would hold up. Obviously, the tap tempo switch is my preferred method of hands-free delay-time adjustment, but I'm assuming that you're wanting to use the slider to control noise/oscillation?

Yeah, moving the fader while playing would be for real time noise manipulation:) Not something I'd use regularly, but still a neat little extra:)ifeellikeatourist wrote:Tap tempo is another feature that really sealed the deal for me. I'm personally not a huge tap tempo user, nor someone who needs super wacky modulation or anything. I hope I'm not hijacking the thread or anything, but maybe this'll be of help to others that are also on a tight budget, and dig warm sounding analog delays, preferably in a pedal-friendly enclosure.
Dispite everything I love about the ES2 (top mount jacks, awesome looks, long delay time, etc)...The Carbon Copy sounds a lot warmer in the clips I heard. The repeats of the ES2 are definatelly more trebbly and clean, and the modulation seems to get annoying real soon on the dial. The cc's modulation sounds a bit more useable, and the extra mush/grit on the repeats make it sound more ambienty, more inspiring/musical,...
Like I said, I wouldn't really miss the tap tempo. And judging on the demos, the modulation seems to be tuned just righ, so the lack of more controls is well worth the more convenient footprint. OTH...The 20Euro price difference on top of the short delay time, makes the ES2 look tempting all over again
Don't suppose you ever tried the deluxe memory boy? Over here it's just 10Euro more than the ES2, and it's packed with a TON of extras. Fx loop, different types of tweakable modulation, etc. Too big for my current board, and probably just total overkill in terms of options and controls, but if the repeats are in the same league as those of the CC, it might just be time to invest in a larger board...

Firstly, I'm all for thread hijacking, as long as it's hijacked in good faith.
I also happen to really dig the CC. It is a massively underrated delay. Always sits well in the mix. And as you said, tasty modulation.
I actually looked good and hard at the ES2 - it looks pretty freaking awesome. Someone on here had/has one. Have to look through the pedal board thread. The only thing stopping me with these delays (de7 is another great suggestion) is that I really want to manipulate the effect in real time without having to use my hands. And I don't trust myself to get it right with a kick disc because new things. Also a bit worried about putting too much torque on the knob and breaking it off.

dude, if what you're about it manipulating the delay time with your foot, then you probably should get the minifooger delay--its got a exp pedal input for delay time or feedback.goroth wrote:Firstly, I'm all for thread hijacking, as long as it's hijacked in good faith.![]()

Re: Which oscillating delay?
As for the Carbon Copy v.s. the Deluxe Memory Boy I'm all for the latter, no question.
It does sound a bit darker and murkier though but there's much more sounds and possibilities, I find it way more inspiring.
If you try it out do check that the tone control (hidden feature) is completely counter clockwise or maximum 1/4 up, if you go past that the delay and mix completely changes and that kinda ruins it in my opinion.

Re: Which oscillating delay?
I'd go for the Minifooger or the DMB. The Deluxe Memory Boy is too big but it offers control of either the rate, depth, delay time or feedback with an expression pedal.

Re: Which oscillating delay?
It does, it's not the most functional tone control but knowing so and how to set it up the way you prefer it can be a matter of liking or hating the pedal in my experience.

I'm pretty sure one of the day care ladies did some weed in the seventies. Not sure if she shares it with the rugrats though.Ugly Nora wrote:Then again, I smoked a lot of pot. Not sure if your son smokes or not.
So a DMB Lunar Echo turned up in my hometown for stupidly cheap money. Over here they go for 400 usd new (so it wasn't even on the long list of possible purchases), but dude has it for 200usd. I'm kinda tempted because it fits most of the requirements and it seems like a good deal (and it's local). And I'm a sucker for "deals". I swear, even if I knew a shop bumped up its prices by 20% before I walked in, if they told me they'd give me 20% off I'd be like "oh wow, cool, I'll take three".

Re: Which oscillating delay?
Dude, I've a wanted a Moog hardcore since they came out....so that's how I feel.
You considered a Malekko yet? I had a 616 lofi a while back. It was neato.
I got rid of it because I'm an idiot.
I worked that out after I sold it for way less than I should have.
I just got a Dirge built 1776 Multiplex. It is tits.
If you went for the Mini option I'm sure it would satiate your needs.

Re: Which oscillating delay?
SolidGoldFX Electroman delay? The Warp switch allows you to induce oscillation and it gradually becomes louder (and crazier) the longer you hold down the Warp switch. I have one and it's great fun!
Plus with a Y-cable you can add another pedal to its signal path that would change the sound of the repeats, e.g. clean dry signal and distorted repeats or wah'd repeats even. Lots of sonic possibilities!
Not sure it fits your size requirements though.
