Can we talk about green muffs, or is that too cliche?

Post by ifeellikeatourist »

So I have a friend on facebook who is selling some pedals, one of them is a black russian muff--nbd. Another non-guitar-playing friend of mine comments "Oh I have an old russian-made muff, maybe I should sell it too." I immediately pm him ('cause I know this guy hasn't played guitar since college and he graduated from college in the late '90's) and tell him "don't sell it--what color is it?!" he sends me this pic:

It's just been sitting in a closet for years. This guy had no clue it was worth anything. Unfortunately, he's a close friend, so I can't take advantage of his ignorance and score a deal on a green muff, but he's going to let me borrow it for a while (you know, to make sure it's functional ;) ) and then I'm probably going to help him sell it on ebay because he needs cash. Anyway, I'm not up on my muff history, and this thing is so distressed, anyone have any idea which version this one is, or do I need to open it up to determine that?

It's a tall font green russian. I can tell because the paint sucks. Mine looks like that. It's the best muff ever. Just completely ridiculous sounding in the best way

I suspected tall front due to no screws being visible from the top, but like I said, my muff knowledge is pretty limited. I'm so stoked to play this thing!

Yeah, I might take my time testing it out. I don't think my friend is in any hurry to sell, but I don't have the cash to give him what it's "worth," so when he's ready, I hope we can find this little beast a loving home (to the highest bidder). Really, though, maybe he should just keep holding onto it and see if these things keep going up.

You can get a better idea of what version tall font from comparing gutshots with those on kitrae's big muff page. It was a real kick in the ass the first time I played trough mine. Awesome fuzz for guitar and bass.

Might as well save on the ebay fees and just sell it to UG directly.

I've always been kind of meh on Muffs, but my experience is red and black pre-bankruptcy and a ram's head-ish clone. Anything about the tall front green that would stick out an impress a muff sceptic?

Bubble Font, just like mine. A bit less beloved than the Tall Font, but still sexy.

Thanks! I'm able to get my hands on it for $160. I've seen them go for about $250 on eBay, so unless the guts are totally done for or not original, I think I just might have to get it.
