Behringer Vintage Time Machine?

Post by colossus »

Amazon has these for $50 so I grabbed one on a whim. Anyone have thoughts? I did a search and found one thread but it didn't have many reviews. Who has played one? I figure for $50, why the hell not?

(And yeah, no need to repeat the whole "Behringer sucks!" mantra. I'm well aware of their shitty practices.)

That's their copy of the EHX DMM right? It probably sounds fine, most Behringer stuff does. I assume it uses the newer chinese BBDs, like the EHX Memory Boys do. So it will probably sound similar to the Memory Boy, which I think is a little bit crisper than the old DMMs with the NOS chips.

Yup, their kinda sorta clone of the DMM. And I just found gut shots and there is a TON of empty space in the enclosure. I'm thinking I need to toss in a fuzz or something to make it a bit crazier. Ideas?

I use one in my bedroom and it sounds very close to my big box DMM at lower settings, after ~300ms it start to sound really dirty, 9v is not enough headroom for those ICs I guess.
The switch just sucks and the gain and blend pots are just bad too, I think they are linear and need to be replaced for log.

My bandmate has one, super lo-fi, I love it. Doesn't sound like DMM, but it has all the same functions and has its own unique sound. Definitely a keeper.

Maybe buy their vintage tube overdrive and put it in there too?

Big thread on it on FSB. It does some modernization but also takes a few shortcuts relative to the DMM. If you've got some skills and knowledge you could probably mod it to something a bit closer, but some folks seem to like them stock.

$50 does seem pretty tempting to give it a go.

Pretty sure Aen was rocking one of these for a time. Might actually be in the initial post that launched the show yr pedal board thread. Either way, for $50, it's certainly worth a shot!

Correction: it was the Vintage Distortion in that first show yr board shot. Ah well. Let us know how you dig the delay!

Had it and still regret getting rid of it. Definitely worth 50 clams. Frankly I think any delay is worth $50.

I miss it mostly because it was THE PERFECT pedal in my Q-Tron+ fx loop. I love the dirt it can put out.

 I can't wait for this to arrive now. I think I may just throw a switchable SHO into the case, pre delay.

A guy in my band has one he uses for bass. It's pretty cool, he sort of goes back and forth between the deluxe memory boy and the time machine, but always leans towards the time machine in the end. He doesn't really use delay a lot though. He's a super rad dude. I'm not really sure about the pedal tbqh :idk: :idk: :idk: :idk:

I JUST picked one of these up! I found a b-stock one at musiciansfriend for $43. It's ridiculously large, but I have tons of space on my board, so that isn't really a concern. I think it sounds good, but the repeats are definitely dark. I wouldn't use it as a primary delay, but it's a good #2. Also, I think the chorus/vibrato functions are pretty worthless, which was a little disappointing. It's funny, because when these things were $75, I would rather just pick up a used memory boy or toy, but at $50 or less, I feel like this thing is a no-brainer as long as space isn't an issue for you.

I have one. Lo Fi! Love it.
Plus: Love it a Oscillating Unit too. Even stand alone.

This just came in and I played with it for about 10 minutes on my work break through a teeny Danelectro Honeytone amp. First impressions -- awesome sounds. Vibrato is nice. Chorus sounds shitty (but perhaps in an awesome way pre-fuzz). Biggest gripe, it feels cheap. Yeah, I know -- Behringer -- but these knobs are so wobbly. I'm going to open it up later and see if I can tighten things up a bit. Do all of these just not feel that solid? And this paintjob is hideous.
