NEED THE HELPS WITH THE FUZZ

Post by decomposing »

I'm baaaaaaack.
prepare thyself.

ok I need some help from the vast knowledge base that is this community which I heart on the matter of raucous raunchy 70's fuzz and some inspiring buzzy out of control thunder
trying to narrow it down and battles my neurosis that is fuzz addiction.
have my heavy muffy needs via a supercollider, rat and forthcoming bee baa

love the nasty, filthy, buzzy, trashy, raw sounds of yore that seem to be eluding my grasp, funds are an issue.
replacing the lost terminal with a LAOWIZ FY2 and getting a FM2 for good measure to cover those superfuzz needs. so that's awesome.
Grails seems to use stuff like this, so nasty and huge!

or would a wooly mammoth be a better choice?

or a Harmonic percolator? :?:

the candy apple fuzz also tempts the fuck out of me... thoughts?
eagles of death metal come to mind which I love and wonder how close that would get me?\

now I'm left thinking I don't have my 70's rock urges covered at all. which brought me to lusting after the yardbox for the early bender sounds. though there are a bunch of haters around that whole sound. I just love the zep sounds on 2, actually listening to it now.

but love those tom petty sounds on running down a dream, and think it's a tube fuzz / red llama clone type of thing. which sounds rad for overdriven type of fuzz sounds ala mfz1?
love that bluesy zip on lower gain settings! black keys here I come!
yardbox seems more flexible, but is the tube fuzz it's own thing again? would the scarab deluxe be a better route for these combined?
:?:

for your viewing enjoyment and better illustration, please put your eyeholes on the below...
at about 11 minutes there's some wicked fuzz that's SOOOOO GOOOOOD, FY2 / FM2 ?

the tube fuzz clone? anderton I think? raunchy!

the almighty II

and some trashy rock with buzzy overtone

bluesy zipper crunch

the frayed ends of sanity
OUT
:animal:

A boss tone clone is a good trashy fuzz with the right settings and pickups. Dan from the black keys claims it is his desert island fuzz if that helps. Also I think it is all over the thickfreakness album.

hmmm. I'll be checking that out. thanks.

I got this from a forum from the fuzzaholic himself.
"I've got shelves of pedals, sick amounts of pedals. But I swear, I use the same pedals I've always played. I bought an early-1970s Ibanez Standard Fuzz pedal, the octave fuzz with the two sliders. I've been using it since the first record, and I cannot top it. It's got two basic tones, bassy or trebly, and I use it on bass and guitar. It's just wild. I also use those green Sovtek Big Muffs on the road. They're fun for blasting a bigger amp. But when you want to get character out of a little amp, you really can't beat those little Japanese fuzzes like the ones from Shin-ei. Those are my favorite, the absolute best." - Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys

and this blurb set my quest in a different direction:

If you opt for a fOXX Tone Machine, an excellent choice BTW, then you won't want a BeeBaa clone because their circuits are rather similar.
I think a Tonebender (of the Sola Sound/Colorsound variety) clone would compliment the fOXX. If you want a more mid-'60s and less early '70s sounding fuzz then you may find the D*A*M 1966 (a Vox Tonebender Mk. II clone) to your liking.
I like the fOXX Tone Machine reissue and the D*A*M 1966 because both are battery-only and neither has an LED: it keeps things better sounding IMO.
I prefer the buzzsaw, bees in a can fuzz of the mid-60s, for the most part, so I've no qualms with running a Maestro Fuzz-Tone (Vox reversed engineered it for the Tonebender) and an Ashbass FUZZbrite (a Mosrite Fuzzrite clone). Still I'd love to have a BeeBaa clone too.

A good foxx tone machine clone is the homebrew electronics UFO or ultimate fuzz octave. I have one and love it. It is pricey and you don't hear much about them around here. There might be a cheaper option out there if it's out of your budget.

I built a clone of a boss tone. But you don't want me to build you one. My builds look like a train wreck inside. There will be someone in the shark tank who will build better clone. And my pedal building days are over anyway.

how would you compare the bosstone to the foxx?
especially if I like the FY2 and FM2
anyways...

Fox tone machines are kind of muff sounding, Jordan boss tones have the sustain of a muff but have a more buzzy tone to them. If you like the tone of a fy2 you will like the boss tone. It cleans up nicely too. Unlike the fy2.

ok this helps a lot
I need to get my grubby hands on these circuits to test
still stuck on this candy apple fuzz, mainly because there's one up and it seems like versatile little beast
http://www.bearfootfx.com/product/candy ... zz-silver/
traded a fuzz stang for the terminal which got lost
so it's down to the CAF or BOSSTONE for buzzy madness
still planning on getting the FY2 and the FM2 though
trying to have that swiss army fuzz
if it exists

Mammoth or clone would be a good Swiss army fuzz. Noisemaker zero fuzz is a good option too. Good for the price.

the mammoth was one that peaked my interest way back, I'll have to check one out. I do have a supercollider that I love for all out heavies and some vintagey muff stuff
a rat, little big muff and a blue box. the bass micro synth has other octave stuff covered I think.
those nasty surf and old tones though have me searching
this thing! holy shnikes
