I bet that subkick on the batter sounds sweet by itself. The d112 will always be a go to. A shure 98 is also a cool batter side mic. It slips into tiny spaces so you can leave on the resonant head.

So I am test driving a used Paiste 2002 20" Wild Crash. I am seeing if it will take the place of my 20" Paiste 2002 Novo China. Just played it for one practice so far. The verdict is still out. Overall, it sounds pretty good. It has a much faster decay than the regular 2002s. Think it is a bit thinner and lighter. It has a huge bell. And...., it would be a lot easier to fit into my cymbal bag. Chinas are a PITA the cram into cymbal bags. It is doable, but just barely. I have a 24" Ahead Armor deluxe soft cymbal bag. It works great because it has the back pack straps and a handle. Everything is top loaded so I don't have to do the same dance I would have to if I used a hard cymbal case. It makes set up and tear down as quick as it is going to get.

I got if from GC used, so I have 30 days to figure out if it will stick around or not.

Hi guys.

Just wondering if any of you have tried out Sabian APX cymbals. I know they're a cheaper line but I've heard they cut through loud music well and stand up to abuse better than lot of other more expensive cymbals. I tend to crack every cymbal I play and im looking for something cheap (their on massive blowout at musiciansfriend) that will hold up for quite a while.

I know the whole how to hit a cymbal correctly technique, but everyone say I just look badass bashing the shit out of cymbals live.

I found this tasty little treat I got to try out yesterday and will hopefully be picking up this weekend:



Tama Starclassic Performer B/B (Birch / Bubinga) with a 24x18 kick, 12x7 rack tom and 16x14 floor tom plus a 13x7 maple snare.

The kick drum is a fucking beast, and the toms sound bigger than they actually are.

Talking about that Pearl Export kit in the craigslist thread got me thinking I never posted my drum kit. Maybe that's because I don't have any decent pictures because this is the best one I could find:

Pearl Export 24" Kick, 18" Floor and 14" Tom
Mapex Black Panther 14" snare
Zildjian Avedis 20" Ride and 14" Hihat, and a teared 18" Sabian 20xs crash that I pulled off a stack of broken cymbals (in the picture are my drummer's cymbals though).

I'm also working on adding some triggers to sample stuff from kick/snare and some pads. Do any of you have any experience with this? I bought a Boss SP-404, an Alesis Trigger io, Roland kick/snare triggers and some cheap pads. Guess that will be pretty flexible once I get it going! I hope I'll have the time to figure it all out soon.

Looks great dude!!!! Looks like yours is an early to mids 80's.

I used to be into triggered stuff but I got so fed up trying to make it all work flawlessly, but then again that was years ago when it was all starting out.

So here she be!!!!! All set up in the new practice space:







Still awaiting the new cymbals to arrive as well as some new hardware such as a new snare stand, a tom / cymbal stand (so I can mount the rack tom on a stand to get better placement), some plates to cover the holes when i remove the mounting brackets from the kick drum and rack tom (I can't stand the rack tom and kick drum being attached to each other and want them to be as "virgin" as possible), and an optimount for the rack tom. Eventually gonna get another heavy duty boom stand, and I'm thinking about running with a double floor tom setup.

Played it last night and it sounds fucking huge, the kick drum is an absolute beast. It cuts right through the mix.

Awesome! Congrats on the new kit! I always like the idea of having two floor toms, but in practice, it is usually pretty tight at a lot of the venues we play and would get left behind too often. I wouldn't mind having one at home, once I get a home where I can play that is...

Thanks man much appreciated!!!! I'm thinking of putting it to the left of me so I can keep this core setup the way it is but add on with minimal disruption. Plus it would be handy for alot of the tom work I do with linear beats. Since I lead with my right hand I can do some different patterns without having to cross hand. All their old material is written on a four piece though, so I'll try it out with the new stuff we write it might stick it might not.

Also randomly but I saw a post of yours over at the drummerworld forum where you listed off all your cymbals. Which Zildjian 24 do you have? and what are your thoughts on it?
