Pairing Bass amps with Mudbuckers

So, everything I plug my vintage EB-3 into seems to fart out with the sheer amount of bass and output the mudbucker puts out. I've played through V4s, Musicmans, Peavey Rockmasters, etc...My Laney AOR 100 is the only amp that seems to pair decently with it so far. I've noticed that with a good fuzz or distortion on it seems to perform a bit better/

What would you suggest I plug this bass into for a good, punchy, fat clean tone? Or hell, even a slightly overdriven tone that doesn't suck ass?

Maybe try something SS? An old ACC would probably be good. You're not going to want to hear this, but the RB series of amps by Gallien Krueger can do punchy fat clean tones in spades.

You may have to just dial back the volume on your bass a bit. I have to on my jag, and sometimes I forget to and wonder why my bass sounds so squished and carry until I remember. I hate doing it for some reason. I feel like it should be full blast all the time.

Strangely, the humbucker on my gretsch is way louder and bassier but doesn't fart out. So maybe its your pickup?

Yeah is there a reason not to change the pickup out? Treat your vintage hammer to a custom wound job so you can use it with more amps?

The AOR should be rolling off a bunch of bass at each gain stage, which is probably why it's working out for you.

Roll back the bass on the amp. You can also try some of the overdrives that have a bit of low end loss -- try out a 250 and the like.

Distortion compresses the signal, which is why it performs a bit better. Try rolling off the preamp gain and low end, and turn your mids up. Those pickups naturally drive the amp in to distortion.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I do end up playing with boatloads of fuzz usually, but I just wwant to have a nicer bare amp tone to destroy. I guess it could be my cab, too.
