'Henretta' no knobs pedals

Post by Ro_S »

There's a couple of vidoes from summer NAMM '14 of Henretta Engineering's range of no knob pedals. (Here's one of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnlosVxZiaI). Their premise is to set-and-forgot so one can concentrate on playing. They do have a coupleo of internal trimpots.

Are these just the emperor's new clothes though?

Reduced features (no knobs). But there's no cost saving (retail $125). Furthermore, in terms of pedalboard real estate, the enclosure width and the side-mounted jacks mean there's no economy on width.

Imo, they should've put the jacks on the top of the enclosure - or gone with Mooer micro style off-set jack arrangement.

They have a Shark Tank here. Go ask homie about why.

but there's an economy on length. you can fit two of those no-knobbers vertically in the same space you would put an mxr-sized pedal or whatever, which is way cooler than taking up a couple of centimeters less width IMO.
I love top mounted jacks but i dunno if it would even be possible in that enclosure size, let alone being able to stomp on it without hitting the next pedal over. They're tiiiiny.
As for the price, i think it's pretty reflective of the time and effort it takes a dude to hand-build a nice-quality pedal.. smaller size does not necessarily equal easier to build.

Henretta have a forum here, as jwar said, so you can ask anything you're unsure about directly, they do custom jobs like double pedals with top mounted jacks and stuff, it's all pretty neat.

but if one is combining these with other pedals of more standard which they already own, then the saving on height/length doesn't help that much.

sure, but that only really applies if all of your pedals are the same length as a boss/mxr pedal etc. these are great for that extra space above or below e.g. a boss pedal sitting next to a whammy. beats putting something sideways or getting a zvex pedal that's impossible to hit without messing up the knobs.
plus if you buy a bucket of them it can be awesome like this

Well the huge majority of pedals out there are the height/length of a typical MXR/Boss pedal.

yeah, i'm just giving examples of situations where these pedals would be useful as they are. as far as space-saving goes, if you want uniformity, buy more pedals with top mounted jacks in 125b enclosures, if you want to (for example) fill the odd row on your pedaltrain when a pedal takes up 3 tiers instead of 2, buy a henretta pedal. it's a niche market, not for everybody but unique and purposeful as it is.

Is that your board, Backwards? Looks like there's some killer sounds on there.

The green and the red together sounds soooooooooooo good! A two in one would be awesome. You see that shelf? The two in one is top mounted.

If you have that much trouble fitting this tiny little guy on your board, you probably don't need to buy one. It drives me nuts that everyone is so obsessed with top mounted pedals. I actually wish all of them were side mounted. They fit better on a Pedaltrain that way if you use pancake plugs.

Also just to call you on it since you're a builder, aren't you? You have a link in your profile. If it's that big of a deal, why didn't you top mount all of your pedals? Seems like it doesn't make sense to complain if you're not even doing it.

Hey, so, looking at the pedal diagram, I found a quick and easy mod to take care of the top-mount problem:
Firmly grasp the pedal and rotate it 90 degrees.
You now have one top mounted jack and one bottom mounted jack.
Might even be better that top mount in some cases!

Is this mod reversible? I don't want to damage the resale value of my pedal. Thanks.
