Chorus.. never really used them, the only ones I've tried was the CE-5 (meh), and the small clone (good enough, lacks of controls). Throw me suggestions on good/decent swirly chorus, that's not cheesy. A plus if it could also do flanger & throbbing vibrato. Heard a lot about the retro sonic & Analogman's, let's hear some more. I play mostly surf/shoegaze

 I was gonna say that, but since I hate chorus, I figured I'm probably not the person to be suggesting chorus.

Sounds like exactly what synthezatory's looking for though.

Dude not to plug my own shit but I'm totally going to cause it's pretty much what you're asking about

VFE Choral Reef. I wrote a bit about it in that thread. It's a Small Clone clone. Mix knob goes to 100% for the vibratos. Could definitely pull double duty as a flanger with the feedback knob. I would say it's actually better at flanging than chorus but there are a ton of in between chorus and flange tones that could be debated either way. There's only really a Prymaxe demo for it but that's what I went off of but things came up and need to sell it.

Not cheese-chorus generally doesn't do the other stuff you've listed.

Go with a Boss CE-2/3 or a Dimension C or equivalent, set the mix and whatnot low so you get pissed if it's not on. And you've found their glorious spots then.

If something unusual is up your alley take a look at Mr Black Double Chorus. I had it, sold it because my active bass was too hot for it, have Cosmi now. Double Chorus is simple and might be not most versatile chorus in the world, but it sound is addictive.

you basically just described the cosmichorus. I would go with that if you have the scratch. It is swirly and warbly and has a mix knob so you can do vibrato, you can get flanger-ish settings if you tweak it right, there's a whole thread full of awesome settings for it somewhere.

my favourite is the Polytope but only because i prefer static detune to modulated chorus sounds, it's fucking brilliant but it won't suit what you're describing as well as the cosmichorus will.

Cosmi sounds like what you might want.

The Sea Machine is a really different sort of chorus, really quite fun.

This is the least cool suggestion, but a Marshall RG-1 Regenerator cops all of those tones. Granted it is a multi-mode, digital emulator. But it sounds pretty good for how much stuff it does and isn't expensive.

Cosmichorus is always the "nice" pedal for that job. It'll get as wild as you want.

The best I played are definitely the Cosmichorus and Warped Vinyl, they just sound awesome and not cheesy at all, plus they're great with fuzz for that faux dual oscillator / guitar sound.
Other really nice options are the Ibanez / Maxon pedals, TC SCF and the MXR Stereo Chorus.
You could also just look for a Flanger, something like the Deluxe Electric Mistress maybe, that one makes great chorus type sounds.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

Totally not what you're looking for, cause it lacks controls and won't do any vibe/flange/vibrato tricks...

But just cause it's SO not cheesy, I'll second the CE-2. I've always been alergic to chorus effects in general, cause all the pedals I tried reminded me of awefull hair metal and 80s pop ballads. It wasn't until I got the CE-2 that I learned that not all chorus pedals have that annoying 'metallic' shimmer thing going on. The CE-2 sounds just as big as the next chorus pedal imo, it's cheapish, doesn't mess too much with your basic clean/dry tone, and it just sounds luscious and em...I can't believe I'm actually saying this: analog/warm

Oth, on an unlimited budget, I'd check out the warped viny. It seems to do a lot more than just chorus, and from what I can tell it does them prety fucking good too. Have to admit though, I don't have a ton of experience with boutique modulation peddles.

That cosmic & warped has been in and out my computer screen for a while browsing around, they're sure look cool & sounds good, but way too complex for my simple needs & cost too much. Just looking for a cost friendly & simple unit. Don't think I would spend high dollars for a chorus. Being cheap & picky is a real struggle hahah :picard:

Uni Vibe.

It wont get you radical flanging but everything else it does, it does well...clean or dirty.
It's kind of my stock answer at this point...Uni Vibe & phase-O-matic deluxe.
