Whoa, thats a shit-load of questions, I'll see what I can do. Anyways, I got a Mobius for the same reason as most other people. I had like 10 different mod boxes, each for one specific sound that I used in one or two songs. It was a way to save a shitload of board space and money. I've had it for about a year and a half now, and I love it. It can't do EVERY mod sound, but it can do most, and I don't really have any mod GAS anymore.
skullservant wrote:a) Any cool phaser tricks? Usually a fan of a SUPER slow phase, but I'd like other ideas.
I'm the same way, I like super slow phase, usually 2/4/6 stage. The crazy 10/12/+ stage ones usually end up sounding cheesy like flying saucers and lazer beams to me.
skullservant wrote:b) Cool flanger tricks/ways to think outside the box with flange?
I usually want my flangers to be really intense and slow, TZF is really fun, and also slow the flanger down as far as it will go. I don't think you can stop it altogether like the old Mistress in filter matrix mode, but you can get a similar sound. It can sound really metallic, like you're rolling marbles down a drain.
skullservant wrote:c) Rotary speaker/Leslie sounds: completely new to me. How do you dudes use rotary sounds?
I hate to sound like a smartass, but I just use it with a bit of overdrive to sound like I'm playing a hammond through a leslie. I love that sound. Not all that creative, but it's a classic tone, and the Strymon is one of the best leslie sims I've ever heard.
skullservant wrote:d) Vibe- I kind of understand how it's different from phasing, but not entirely.
The Univibe basically is a phaser, but with an asymmetrical sweep. Kinda like a drunken phaser. If you turn the depth all the way up and feed it heavy distortion or fuzz, it can be a really intense effect.
skullservant wrote:e) Does anyone use any sort of Formant filters like on the Mobius? How do you go about it?
I haven't played with the formant much, pretty much just doing the standard EHX Bassballs sound. But I use the normal filter mode on sample and hold for a couple songs.
skullservant wrote:f) Harmonic vs tube vs photo trem- what is the difference?
Photo is choppier, tube is a softer standard triangle wave trem, and harmonic has a spacey, almost phaser-y sound to it along with trem.
skullservant wrote:g) Quadrature mode- it's pretty much a ring mod with a ton of options. I like this. How do y'all use ring mod effectively?
Well there are three kinds of mod in Quadrature. AM is basically ring mod. FM is a bit different, anyone who's played with synths a bit knows what FM can do. It sounds cool, I used to have a Copilot Orbit, which also did FM. Not totally clear on what freq shift mode does, but it seems kinda like FM that only moves in one direction, up or down.

I have a dedicated ring mod (EHX FA) so I don't really use the Mobius for ring mod stuff. I use the FM along with fuzz to approximate my old Copilot Orbit sound. It's like a filtery, laser-y fuzz sound.
skullservant wrote:i) Any cool chorus tricks out there?
For chorus, I like it to be as slow as possible or totally static, with a really wide spread and in stereo. Basically I want it to sound like the old Boss DC-2 :)

I hope that helped somewhat.

I just acquired a möbius last week as well. I'm feeling some option paralysis. There's just so much to do with it. I'm going the same route I went with my timeline, an just spending an hour or so of each pedal session dedicated to one algorithm. Just trying to figure out what every nook and cranny can do.

Thanks for all of the tips and discussions dudes, this has really got my mind thinking and trying things outside of the box. I'm going to try to (if I have some time, of course) record each of the 10 presets that I have made myself thus far.
I think I fully realized last night how crazy it is, as I thought I had messed around with all the parameters on one mode, but then went into the sub-menu and found like 5 more different things I could tweak. Sheesh. So awesome though, I'm having a lot of fun.

Now, another question- I'm personally having a lot of fun just using it at the end of the chain in stereo. But I was reading about the pre/post mode, and I kind of want to try that out. I just wish I could still run stereo if I did it. I'd like some things before delay, like ring mod and what not, but for right now I'm pretty happy

My 2 cents: my appreciation for modulation really got started when I put them into a feedback loop. Modulation is the most fun for feedback looping.

When I've heard youtube demos of the Mobius, I've thought its modulation models were lacking in character a bit.

Do you have a drum machine and midi cables? Sync that shit together. That's where it is at for me.
Play with the waveform divider to the Beat, and try half time stuff.

Thanks for that! Good stuff in there for sure.

Nah, I don't have either. I used to have Midi cables, but I use midi once in a blue moon so I got rid of them
