BOSS Volume pedal for noise

Post by nevada »

Which Boss volume pedal will work best for a feedback-loop rig? I see these: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... ductId=697, but I'm not sure if I want the 500H or 500L.
Good deals with PumpkinPieces, hazelwould, PetZounds, Steelyeye, DannDubbleEwe (x3), skullservant (x3), ChetMagongalo, leaves turn, Helter, EvilCatBucky, OddKnowledge, vanderholm, Phengren Oswald, Uncle Grandfather, decomposing, MrNovember, multi_s (x2), smallsoundbigsound (x2), Dandolin, Strangle Tales who is a good dude

500H is high impedance and appropriate if it's first in your chain after guitar with passive pickups. 500L is low impedance, designed to run later in the chain after buffers.

What if there's no guitar, just a reverb pedal fed into itself?

Dude, just wait for Wazza to reissue a classic one with upgraded analog components.

Umm, not sure. Need to figure out if that loop signal is high or low impedance. Otherwise sweep will be wonky and signal may lose lots of strength.

Yeah, what kinda reverb pedal? If you're using like a boss reverb and it's going directly into the volume pedal you'd want the low impedance model but if there's other pedals after the verb and before volume pedal you might need the high impedance one. Gonna need to know more about the signal chain.

Well, I'm still designing this but so far I'm thinking Hardwire Supernatural looped with another modulation pedal then into the volume pedal and onto something else, maybe a limiter. Sounds like high impedance to me.

pretty sure hardwire pedals have about the same output impedance as newer boss pedals which is fairly low, depending on the other pedals running after the supernatural it might warrant the low impedance model. the high impedance model is what you would generally choose for running an instrument with passive pickups into.
may be worthwhile measuring it once you put the setup together, i mean both pedals would work but you'll get a different kinda sweep. i actually preferred the sweep when i put my high impedance ernie ball VP jr in the middle of my chain.

If there's another pedal that's active before the volume pedal, chances are it's a low impedance you want.
