Twice the distance from the nut to the bridge for the octave down loooooooooooooooows. Come on dude, that's BTB Doom 101.

The length must be such that three (3) dank nugs and a beard hair grown for at least five (5) years will fill its span.

Doesn't matter how wide the bridge is because I'm p sure you only need one string for doom

I thought the important part was to seal a couple of smooshed up sausage rolls inside the pickup cavities and glaze the fretboard in bbq sauce. Comin' over all meat machine.

Re: What is the ideal behind the bridge string length
Take the string distance from nut to bridge, and then derive what fraction of that will fit on the body you're using with the largest possible numerator, and lowest possible denominator, with the denominator taking precedence.
In order, these should give you the greatest resonance of the lowest possible harmonics. I think.
1/1, 1/2, 2/3, 1/3, 3/4, 1/4, 4/5, 3/5, 2/5, 1/5, 5/6, 1/6, etc
