Bass amps in my life

Post by Bearstripes »

So I posted a thread in the bst about my bass master and I got a lot of response with advice and I could use some more.

So I'm still on the hunt for a new bass head or possibly rug that will meet my needs. I currently use a traynor yba1 and it's just not cutting it into my newer svt hlf 4x10. (4 ohm loads makes it break up to soon)

So I'm looking for a head that will give me the clean headroom I want along with the ability to breakup if I need it to as well as takes fuzz like a champ.

My budget would be around 500 or what ever I can trade my traynor for.

Would prefer tube but I'm up for anything

Tube is going to be a bit of a dealbreaker on your budget. I feel like an SVT would be perfect if you want tubes, but that's about double your price range used (not to mention they get stupid loud before they break up on their own).
good deals are here.
flesh couch is here.

Could always try a Music Man, they have tubes in the power section and can be had for 400-500.

Only tube BASS head I can think of that price range would be a used YBA200. Otherwise you should be able to find PV, Dual Showman, 100W Traynors for around/less $500

Music man is one of the ones I'm really intrigued in, mainly the hd 150 but I can't find any to try or
Buy for that matter.

Never thought about looking at other traynors, wil look for the yba 200.

Also when you said pv, I'm assuming you were talking about peavey and what heads would you recommend?

You could get lucky and find a Peavey VB-2 for around that price.
