The Best Kevin Shields Interview

Post by Wizard »

So Veteransdaypoppy showed me this interview, i don't know if it was floating around this site at all, and i apologize if i'm reposting, but Kevin Shields is an awesome dude, as this video proves. The most interesting part is when he talks about the making of Loveless, and shoegazing.

Man am I the only one who wanted to just totally BEAM that interviewer in his contrived little noggin with that pint glass? What an ASS. Maybe its just me but if his pretentious phrasing didnt get me it had to be his trying desperately hard to look mod for my trip to england to the point where i look like a fucking time capsule getup.

Maybe instead of writing shoegaze we can all start a new offshoot...maybe cockgaze. I know thats really where im looking when i play...that may just be me though. I just get a little tired of everyone who could obviously be ROCKING not rocking. Dont get me wrong...i like mbv. Swervedriver is great....but when i hear songs like mustang ford and realise I just long for the riffs man. I DEMAND MORE RIFFS. I DEMAND ROCKING. ROCK MORE KEVIN SHIELDS.

TBH, Wiz, I'm pretty sure you actually showed this to me. Idk where you got it from, but you showed it to me on Facebook chat. And I actually enjoyed this interview. It's two pretty smart dudes just shootin the shit. Yes, the interviewer totally name-dropped to show off how smart he was, but how else is he gonna put that college education to work as a journalist? :whateva:
well i guess, but i just don't know.

yeah that interviewer is kind of a twat and definitely made up a bunch of words. But he got Kevin to say some interesting stuff and Kevin didn't seem bored/annoyed to be there.

so is this like a joke. y'all are "pretending" not to know who Ian Svenonius is. or something. kind of confused here. like mind-bogglingly confused...

Guess I was wrong. Idk. I stand by what I said. Regardless of his fame, talent, or antics, he's still kinda show-offy. Didn't bug me nearly as much as these other dudes, though. He really seems to respect Kevin Shields, which is pretty much all I cared about.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

i'll have to watch it again. its been ages since i last watched it. i just think that's his interviewing-style. i think its rather novel: sort of an attempt at doing a non-serious mock interview but still doing an "interview." i mean he did the same thing w/ Stephen Malkmus interview i saw. that's really kind of the best way i think. having a "peer" that isn't in awe of the undergroundcultstatusperson he or she is interviewing. otherwise. the interview turns into ONEBIGBORINGHANDJOB.

if you're saying he was being cheeky and not taking it seriously that makes his interview even more annoying. I don't really give a shit who he is, I just didn't like his interviewing tactics is all...I think Kevin was just enjoying himself and therefore opening up more than usual, and maybe that's because Ian was doing something right, but from my perspective he kinda came across as a twat.

i love this guy. his interviews border on parody. sometimes they get it and it's funny, and sometimes it's just a mess.
the ian mackaye interview is fucking brilliant
