Bass amp for guitar?

I play in a two piece band right now and we're looking for an amp that will give me some extra thunder when needed. Basically, I'm looking for an ultra affordable bass amp that takes pedals well. This way I can run a duel amp set up with a Zvex Fuzzolo, Hoof, Turbo Rat, and an Octave pedal like a POG running through the bass amp when playing riffs to make them pop without a bass.

We are doing originals, but we do cover some RATM, Black Sabbath, and QotSA just to give you an idea of our sound. Also if you've heard the band Indian Handcrafts, you'll get a sense of what I'm going for.

We all know the Bassman turned out to be a great guitar amp, but that's really out of my price range. I'd love to be able to find something in the $300-$400 price point?

I've used my Ashdown mag 300 before for guitar. I ran a rat into a pharaoh into it and it sounded like Torche. With less going into it it's a little stiff but that's not really a bad thing with the amount of bass it can put out imo.

That's what I'm worried about.. I guess I kind of have to expect stiff with a bass amp, but just the idea of a monster thump behind every note has me smiling from ear to ear!

Old Peavey solid state stuff is cool. Peavey Bass Mark III or IV. Or Peavey Musician Mark III. They're all about 300 watts (at 2ohms, to be fair) and you can get them consistently for like $150 used. Some models of the musician do 210 watts at 8ohms. A lot of old bass amps seem to work well with guitar since internally there wasn't a lot of difference between their guitar counterparts. Acoustic and Sunn are also good places to look. I use a Sunn Beta Bass and the Musician for guitar and it's colossal. Wattage is the key for those genuine low lows.

You want a massive low thump added to the guitar sounds?
Run a stereo, or (like me) triphonic rig and use a folded horn bass cab.
You'll want a powerful amp running into the horn. My weapon of choice is a Sunn 1200s. Quad 6550 power section gets it done. Now if you can't find or afford something similar, there are plenty of options to get those speakers working to potential. tiny terrors, hovercraft, random wierd shit. KVLT.
Pay more attention to what is in the cab and what it does than brand name. there are some killer deals to be found. A lot of the time the larger, better cabs can be found for cheaper than a lesser option as folks don't want them due to moving them around or they are not in a band and want to free up space in their apt. whatev. take advantage of it.
Cab and speaker choice can be huge, and often is severely overlooked.

I tried a similar two piece band for a while. I wanted to be loud, and to sound like I was coming from all over the place, like I was playing bass and guitar at the same time. Or something to that effect:p

Did a pretty okay job at that, if I may say so myself. Big ass guitar half stack plus a my bass rig. Nothing too fancy, just a GK 300RBIII head on a beat up old ampeg svt 410hlf. The solid state bass rig got me a somewhat of a dry, sterile tone, which works perfect if you use brutal pedals, and have a loud guitar rig running at the same time.

Lately I've been wanting to get the best of both world out of one amp, so I figured it'd make sense to try an old tube head that's originaly designed for bass. Maybe that, plus the right cabinet ofcourse, should get me close enough without having to haul around two halfstacks.

i use a musicman seventy-five head with a 2x12 bassman cab on one side of my stereo rig. some of these old musicman amps have a deep switch that boosts the bass response nicely.

Very helpful, thanks! I wish my dad still had his vintage Acoustic folded 18. I'm sure that would have worked beautifully.
