Best cab for Fender Bassman 50?

Post by myrrh »

Just ordered myself a Fender Bassman 50 head, and I'm a bit clueless when it comes to cabs. I have been a combo guy so far..

Any good tips?

I'd go with a 2x15.

Maybe that's just me? That's my stock answer. I'd go with a 2x15 for most amps if I could.

Yeah, for guitar.

I like the old Kustom tuck 'n' roll cabs. Usually to be found for not a lot of money hopefully.

Agreed.
I actually use an old bassman 50, 2x15 cab, but with modern neo speakers :thumb: The bassman head is long gone however.

What would be the tonal differences between 12s and 15s?
12s are so much easier to find around here..

15's are a tiny bit warmer and fuller than 12's

If it's easier, a 4x12 is fine.

Good to hear as I'm a bit hung up on the looks of a horisontal 2x12...
Dont want a huge rig if possible to avoid.

i've used a closed-back,2x12 mid-60s bassman cab for ages with a similar head. perfect. goes plenty low.

Cool!
Currently looking at these, and the possibility of making it into 4 ohm.
Anyone know about the mesa horizontal 2x12s?

the dude from science makes really cool cabs. he makes vertical and horizontal 2x12's as well as 4x12's. For $525 you can get an unloaded 2x12 that has a convertable back piece, so you can make it open back, closed back, or half and half. pretty rad.

here is a picture so you know what they kinda look like. you can also choose from any of these options for tolex.
