Re: Looking for a new distortion pedal
What kind of amp and guitar are you using?
I'm also thinking IC Muff maybe (possibly with mids or tone defeat) for huge shoegaze tones...

LOL "too much dirt"
Just wanted to say, that awesome Rat type pedlol I forgot about: IAE Acid Pig. I'm not even sure, but I'm assumin it's a pretty close clone, with a couple of clipping options.
Also: +1 on the IC muff suggestion. Those ic muffs really like to be stacked with other dirt btw, and it helps 'em cut through a mix a little better.
I don't know of many IC muff clones though, it might get tricky to find a cheapish one the used market. It's a shame imo EHX makes a zillion of wacky pedals, klon clones, and a ton of muff incarnations...But doesn't bother making reissues of IC/Soviet/triangle/ram's head:s

Re: Looking for a new distortion pedal
I don't know about fed up, but it does get to be almost a meme. Every distortion query is answered with 'the Elements' and every overdrive with 'Mini.' I've used both, and the TAFM, and they were good but didn't speak to me. It gets to be a bit of a joke. Thing is, I think every effects community I've ever been a part of has been similar and this one is friendlier than most. At least no one here thinks the Big Muff with Tone Wicker is the best pedal ever, unlike on Reddit.Ro_S wrote:getting fed up hearing about The Elements and bs/ss all the time on here. Pfft.

On TB, its all Darkglass love. And now, everyone has a Blower Box. I do love the Mini. Its my "always on" pedal. The ss/bs Buzzz is also pretty inspiring.
Why not peruse the Shark Tank? The builders around here can make you some top notch stuff. Look into a SSStampede. It didnt really vibe with my bass setup, but it sounded amazing on guitar.

If you like the tones you're getting out of the MXR Distortion + with your setup, you may want to look into an EQD White Light which is based on a similar design.
Good B/S/T dealings with: univalve, DannDubbleEwe, Shish, ThePastRecedes, GiAnt_ROboT, chutneyfarmer, Muse FTW, robapov, skullservant, MaxMaps, psychedelicrelic, guitarslinger21, space6oy, theshoegazer, bongoben, osbornkt

Re: Looking for a new distortion pedal
I remember going to a forum once a million years ago where their particular stock answer was "get an MT-2 and a GE-7 it will be all the metal you'll need." Now that solution seems completely laughable but that's what they were into at the time.chuckjaywalk wrote: Thing is, I think every effects community I've ever been a part of has been similar and this one is friendlier than most.
You're probably right that most communities have this, and it varies depending on what's in vogue at the time. I'm sure the Elements and the Mini Fuck are wonderful pedals but whenever I see something prescribed across the board in this way I end up being more likely to ignore them.
Thankfully this place is the chillest I've been to and I've come to expect this stuff so it doesn't bother me at all. People get real excited about gear for a spell, that's all.

Re: Looking for a new distortion pedal
The elements/mini reccomendations would be annoying if they weren't genuinely great pedals that usually fit the description of what the OP wants, made by good dudes who hang out on the forums too

I felt the same way when I first started going to talkbass. It seemed like everyone told me to get a B3k, an Oxide, or a Grey Stache. Then I found ILF and decided to get weird with it.

I have many guitars but mainly I'm using an 86 strat with a custom dimarzio single coil in the neck, a 65 jazz master pickup in the middle and a super distortion hum bucker in the bridge. my other mainstay is a squire tele that I bought off a kid on craigslist for $50 after he failed to "antique" it. Solewheelin is putting in a duncan broadcaster pickup in the bridge.
I have a JC-120 which makes a nice "rapey" sound when distorted but currently in my apartment I only have an orange micro that allows me to use headphones to not annoy my neighbors.

I would be lying if I said my interest wasn't piqued by all the recommendations for the element but $225 is pretty steep for me right now and I think I've dropped my max for loads at the spermbank so unless I can sell a few not-neccessary-to-live organs I'm screwed.
