I toyed with the idea of playing bass or guitar before and my video game obsession lead me to getting Guitar Hero first day. I was like, "fuck yeah, this is what I want to do." Two months later I got a guitar for Christmas.
Hahaha it was guitar hero 4 for me
I played a tiny bit before that when I was really young but hated it and quit
So I have been playing guitar about 6/7 years
Started playing bass about 4 years ago to fill a gap in my old band

I started out in crappy punk-type bands when I was 18. Then I moved on to a plethora of different bands over a few years. At this point in time I was only doing vocals.

When my last band sort of disbanded I decided to sell off all of my Magic the Gathering cards and started learning to play guitar. That was about 4 years ago. I'm not terrible. :)

So I've been playing music/in bands for 11 years. I've only been playing guitar for something like 4 years. I played an impromptu gig with my old band when we decided to play a reunion show and two of the members then couldn't make it so I learned how to play all the guitar parts to teach the temporary drummer. Then the bassist ditched two days before the show so we just played as a trio with two guitars. I played guitar and did all the vocals. I don't know how I managed. It was my first gig on guitar.

uhhh, a bit over 10 years. Piano exclusively for the first 4 or so, switched to guitar ~6 and a half years ago. Up until maybe 2 years ago it was all classical and theory lessons and disciplined practice, then around the time I finished high school I got sick of it and wanted to play tenor saxophone or vibraphone but couldn't afford either (and they're the worst things to practice as far as volume and size go respectively).
Since then I've been deliberately trying to make myself forget/ignore everything i learned and approach the guitar like a new instrument. It works...sometimes. I like playing in my band but my personal music direction is more towards noise/electro-acoustic composition.

since 1970. i;m not counting school band cos i wasn't into it. i quit for about 2 years in the Oughties, when my meds of the time made me lose interest (weirdly, i kept playing keys and bass. fuckin' SSRIs). this gave me a unique opportunity to go back and, e.g. kearn to play Wes Montgomery octaves, but that's 44 years. you'd think i'd be better at it by now.

16 years: violin>bass>guitar>guitar/keys I should be much better than I am considering how long I've been playing. Been collecting pedals for about ten of those years.

Does middle school concert band count as "music?"
If so, then 15 years. Starting with alto sax, then baritone sax, then bass...
If not, then 11 years.

on and off for 27 years, and still kinda suck at it. Gigging High school cover bands galore at first, then art school oregon in the 90's which lead to a sensitive acoustic phase for about 5 years, then a year or two break from guitar in grad school, where I explored all thing drum machines, synths and samplers [hello detroit] but no real gigging. I think the acoustic phase kinda killed me out from gigging. I worked with synths and drum machines for the 5+ years we were in apartments and got back into electric guitar once I had a house….my synths sit idling now. Play guitar almost every night, and hopelessly addicted to working out phrases and structures, no matter how little anyone hears of it in the future. That being said, hopping to start playing out again in the next year if I can put some shape around what I am trying to do.

It's wild seeing my friends who truly stuck with it since high school carving out really interesting careers in music, Some own and run venues, others score films, one or two do a decent job of touring for a living and others who to tracking stems that commercial audio folks can use for soundtracks to ads…super inspiring to see how music can effect people's lives.
