Can someone help diagnose 2 of my pedals?

Post by fetch »

Hi guys,

I wanna fix two of my pedals that have been giving me grief for a while. They both seemed to stop working at the same time when my friend started playing late last year and I didn't make a fuss. Because he hadn't touched anything, I'd already put them on my board so everything was wired up proper and then suddenly boom. All the other effects on the board that were plugged into the CIOKS were working fine. I put it down to a freak accordance or an overload or aliens. Probably aliens.

First pedal I want fixed is the ARC Effects KLONe:
- The LED goes on.
- When bypassed it works fine.
- When unplugged from power source sound cuts out (i.e. it's buffered? so I know it's kinda working, right?)
- When the effect is turned on the signal cuts out entirely. Turning knobs does anything.

Second pedal I wanted fixed is the Hardwire Supernatural Reverb:
- The LED goes on.
- When bypassed it works fine.
- When unplugged from the power source sound cuts out (i.e. same as above)
- If the mix is turned all the way there is no signal but as I go anticlockwise it gets louder. No other knob works and no effect.

The second one is kinda really strange. I've had pedals that have died on me like the KLONe so I know I'll have to get that repaired. But I kinda wanna know what exactly went wrong? I guess there's no finding out now because I know that the KLONe was plugged in to the 100mA output and the reverb was plugged into a 600mA and daisy chained with the DD3 (total of 355mA for 600mA output). I'm at a complete loss. Thought I'd post one of these tl;dr threads before shipping them off to the repair man and forking out cash and just shut up.

The Supernatural thing is really bizarre. There's no analog dry-through on that pedal (which is why it can go completely wet), so the mix knob controls the balance between unprocessed and verb'd signal. Sounds like the DSP isn't working at all. Do you have tails turned on or off?

The Klone may be easier to diagnose - open up the back and post some photos, look for anything that may be odd on the switch ie frayed wires, etc.

Isn't the Supernatural still under warranty? Those haven't been out long.

I just got word back from PGS that I can send back the Supernatural and get a new one. MAJOR EXCITE. As for the KLONe, I'll try take pics when I get home. I'm still looking for a local dude who can look at it for me as Aaron has already stated he's willing to look at it albeit for a cost (also need to factor in $40 shipping to US which kinda makes it not worth it).

Pics of KLONe coming soonz.

By the way for anyone interested this is the response I got from PGS...
Thanks for the clarification. We like to troubleshoot as much as possible first.

It sounds like the reverb signal is lost.

Technically the one year replacement warranty has exception since you are so close. You will be out the return shipping but we will cover the shipping of the new unit to you.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

So yeah it wasn't even a hassle to deal with. Awesomez/happy endings/etc.
