Peavey T-60

So, a guy I know has a T-60 that he is unloading and he wants to swap my MIM Strat and a pedal for it. I've always admired the look of the T-60, but I was curious if there were any pitfalls to keep an eye out for.

They're heavy, very heavy. Make sure all the switching works, I mean it wouldn't be a big issue if it didn't (simple fix), but something to note.
Also, not sure how much you'll care when you play it, but there were 2 versions of the pickups. Blade, and bladeless. Some say the earlier bladeless sound better.

The pickups are bladeless. Pots are scratchy. Definitely heavy.

Is it solid or natural finish? The necks are great but they're really thin. Does it still have the case?

I didn't get to play it, yet. I've lifted it before, though, when I helped him move some stuff. Natural finish. It has the original case.

Toasters are good pickups. Roll the tone past 7 and it splits to single coil. I would probably go for that trade. T-60's are built like a brick shithouse and sound/play great. I still haven't fixed the phase switch on mine.

I'm trying to convince him to come over so I can try it with my rig, first. I have this weird thing where some guitars just don't like my Muffs into a Hot Cake into a Sunn setup.

How heavy are these things? 10+ lbs or what? That's pretty much the only gripe I hear about the old Peaveys.

Yeah, I'd say in the 10 lb range. One of the heavier guitars I've played. Definitely more weight than any other wooden guitar I've tried, but not as heavy as the Obstructures when I had it

The natural ones are northern ash and quite heavy. Mine is black and I think it's poplar, so it's a little lighter. They are extremely heavy by TGP/Talkbass standards.

It will be interesting to compare and contrast it with my Reverend, which is exactly the perfect guitar weight of 7.5lbs, and my Gretsch, which is a chunk of mahogany. It is down to scheduling, at this point. I REALLY don't want to trade for it at his place, get it home, and discover it hates my rig.

It's actually single coil above 7 and humbucker below on the tone.

Can't believe those are going for that much these days. I remember when you couldn't give them away and that wasn't too long ago.

I'd be wary of resale if you don't love it, depending on what you're into on whatever pedal etc. it may not be a real grand trade value-wise.

I remember beating them off with a stick for $100 at the pawn shops less than 10 years ago.

I don't sweat resale. I've never sold a guitar. Given away 4, traded 1. I don't trade pedals I'm into. All these years and I've only traded one pedal I regret (a 1970's Little Big Muff) and even that is only a mild regret.
