Troubleshot; Fried Transformer.

Post by warwick.hoy »

Amp is a Blackstar HT-5.

I developed a bad habit of leaving the amp on but in standby for days at a time.

I get no sound on the clean channel and very little sound on the gain channel and that's only with the volume and the gain cranked.

Tried replacing the preamp tube and the poweramp tube. The problem is still there.

So that has me thinking that in my inexperience; I fried the output transformer.

Seem legit?

What would be my way of troubleshooting this?

Thinking if I can tackle this on the affordable I'd go for it; but if it turns out to be a fix as much as I paid for the amp; I'll just pick up something new/different.

Not sure what the issue is but very unlikely it had anything to do with the OT/PT. I've seen many friends accidentally leave amps on standby for days at a time, one for well over a month, and beyond shortened tube life there's never been any issues.

I would check what's in there for fuses. It seems like those little amps blow fuses a lot.

I'll check it out. Of course I researched and what not but I've been finding such things as bad on/off and standby switches as well as bad tubes to a bad resistor pairing.

The bad Output Tranny was suggested by my guitarist.

Not really sure what to think at this point. But I know that the amp isn't really worth much lost sleep.

I may or may not have put an Orange OR15 on layaway yesterday.

Fuses or tubes are the likely culprit in a scenario like that. Shouldn't be anything major.
