SG Debate! USA vs Japan!

Post by amorphous »

So, i just got a killer offer from one of my accounts on one of these:

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... ibute.aspx

BUT, i've also been considering these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161296305447?ss ... 1423.l2649

I've had a few vintage SG's ('72 and '74) and had an '93 '61 reissue - all were great.

Just don't know if i should bite the extra 3-400 and get a USA made Gibson or go toward Greco, Edwards, Tokai...

I know with the edwards, they are nitro finish and Duncan SH-1 and Sh-4's (read good, not duncan designed!)

what sayeth ye, ILF?

Those Edwards look great for the money but the shipping about kills the deal. It depends on what type of SG it's a copy of it.

that's kinda what i'm thinking too. AND, come to find out the Edwards (post 2003) stuff are high quality Chinese builds.

Which kinda pushes me toward a) vintage japanese or b) the new gibson

Vintage japanese is always better unless it's vintage gibson!
Seriously, I have a vintage japanese epiphone SG that you will have to pry out of my cold dead hands.
It's that good.

Are Guild S-1000s still kinda high? If they've come down to a bit more sanity, that'd be the American SG I would look for. Otherwise, Japanese.

^^^^ Oooooh. Good call there. The necks on those are badass. And I love the offset horns. Such a great shape.

Japan all they way. Get a Burny or a Tokai

Best way to explain Burny vs new Gibson is…

Are the new Burny guitars still made in Japan? There's a medium scale bass on Ebay that I really like.

I'd be fine with either. Not all gibsons are alike, not all burny copies are alike, it totally depends.

So I'd just go with whichever SG that feels best for the least amount of money :idk:
