Pharaoh love?

Post by O Drones »

Had a Pharaoh for a long time, but recently I feel like you see them a lot less on boards :idk: and it's not on mine either, but I still have it and don't wanna sell. Do people still love it/use it as much now the hype's died down? Lots of people seemed to buy then flip pretty quickly, disappointed that it wasn't mad gain on tap, too dark etc, and maybe a bit more complex than it immediately appears?

I know the BAT aesthetic has changed a bit, and lots of people don't dig the new art (me included) maybe that's part of why there's not as much BAT love? I dunno, maybe I'm talking total shit

Anyway, still using and loving Pharoahs?

Didn't see what the hype was but the new line of stuff and the supreme got me jazzed.

It's still my favorite muff. Fantastic low end and clarity. Great for blasting amps and stacking with other pedals.

Definitely curious to see more demos/reviews of the supreme

Yeah I'm not quite a fan of the new art. I like the simple stuff, although it does seem like they've stepped up their game. I just don't think the aesthetics are for me. Really dig the options and stuff they are adding on to the Supreme, just wish it was in the old enclosure.

I wanna give a Pharaoh another chance since I've got different amps now. I didn't care for it with the amps that I had previously but I wanna see if my opinion would change

I've yet to try one but I'll admit to liking the older aesthetic better and some of the alternative colors I've seen were awesome. It seems every time I read a comment about them it's about how well they stack with other pedals. Maybe folks were disappointed with how they sound on their own and wanted the board space?
I'm hoping to try one but I'm not sure if I should pony up for a Supreme or wait for all the people that want the Supreme to start flipping their old ones and pick one up cheap.
Wasn't there a pedal that was a mix between the Pharaoh and the LSTR? Had the LSTR circuit with the Pharaoh options or something?

Trans gold Pharaoh can't be topped for looks, sometimes consider having it on the board just to drool over it.

I'd start with an old one and then if you like it, get a Supreme.

They do stack extremely well, but don't need to be stacked to sound good.

I don't have a board, but still swap the Pharaoh into the pedal rotation pretty frequently.

I don't really think of it as a Muff style circuit even though it is. They're much more versatile than your typical Muff. If you're not familiar, the dual tone knobs take a short while to get used to. They're dark sounding and move lots of low end and, as hollowhero pointed out, have unusual clarity for a Muff.

I love Pharoah as well:

i like the old Pharaohs look .. a bit better. i got me # 306!
Black n Gold white/ cream knobs.
lots of bottom end. and yep. it stacks great for a Fuzz.
it's not the most Violent fuzz out there ... and could use some more Gain.
it does the Doom n Gloom.
tone knobs are dark ( been said )
i won't sell mine. it's sweet!
Blue Strat - Jazzmascis - Tele.
Fender - Squier.
Dr. Scientist - Dirge - FuzzHugger - Montreal Assembly - Hypnodrone.

Been asking questions like these all over the place, srry bout that...

But I don't suppose anyone can compair the Pharaoh to a Supercollider? I'm still on my endless search for the ultimate muff-esque fuzz pedal. Affordable, small-ish, good with bass, tweakable with some sort of mids control or whatever other trick to make it cut through a mix better than a stock ehx bmp can,...

Never tried a Supercollider, but I'd guess the Supercollider has a ton more gain on tap. I don't really think of the Pharaoh as an ultimate Muff type of deal at all, I think that's maybe why people are disappointed sometimes when they get one if they expect that. It's a totally different vibe, boomy and wooly, not super gainy or aggressive, doesn't overtake your sound like the popular Muff type pedals, tons of clarity and very dynamic.

I kind of like the new artwork. Kind of a cool Powerslave vibe.

If there was a local distributor for BAT I'd have bought one already. But the Canadian dollar is so shit and shipping is so expensive.... so nice dice maaaaaaaan......
