tychobrahe pedal fuzz, ibanez airplane, and the subdecay starlight deluxe are all dream flanges for me. but the one curiosity i really really love is Rocktron's Hypnotic flanger, which has this little button that you can use for an interesting square-wave type flange effect that i can't find any examples of, so i uploaded my own

you have that kinda "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW" sound going on and when you pair it with fuzz it sounds like one of those giant easter island heads came to life and began chanting in a language you dont know. and i haven't found any other pedal that can do that. its a really specific and unique effect i love, and otherwise its a really musical flanger that doesn't sound overpowering

The only modern flangers I encounter which I think sound nice are too expensive for me for what I'd pay for a flanger. And prices are higher here in UK. E.g. ADA; Hartman; Mr Black.

Maybe I could inatead find an inexpensive but nice-sounding analogue flanger amongst the 1980s Japanese-built flangers? Anyone familiar with any of the 1980s flangers made by the likes of Pearl, Yamaha, Aria, Guyatone, and have any views on them?

Going to have to second (4th?) the Digitech turbo flange. I've never found a subtle setting with it though. For the price? Can't beat.

Arion flanger has this weird grinding-stone-into-the-earth quality to it. Can also do vibe/Leslie type sounds. But theres always a pretty noticeable volume boost with gain pedals.

Dang..... I wouldn't mind reversing that one. Another beauty for the Hen's Tooth Café.

PM me if you're game to let me trace it. As soon as UK and I get through doing the Guyatone Fuzz Monster, we might be able to do a DIY PCB.

Apparently it's 4 layer pcb but that might just be a rumour.
I don't think I'll be posting it overseas but I could take detailed photos

I've seen a couple of mediocre pics of the guts, and it seems to me that it would be a two sided affair. Reminds me a lot of the Resonator board (we're working on a PCB of that atm btw) Pictures might get me by, but they would have to be fairly hi-rez, and LOTS of them. The problem is that there are many "transfer points" between one side of the board, and the other. This is what typically tends to wreck havoc when tracing these boards.

Hey, just PM'd a guy over at Madbean about this. Hopefully he still has it, and is willing to lend it to me. Well... in the meantime, I think I'll go bump my Sputnik thread again.... :idk:

Having taken it apart I am inclined to agree on the 2 sided suggestion.
Its still a massively complicated looking board.
I checked around a couple of the ICs and it seems that "all legs are accounted for" so I dont beleive there are more than 2 layers but I am by no means an expert.

My issue with shipping is
- cost (it weighs around 2kg)
- fear of loss (insurance adds to cost, cant replace unobtainium)

Plus I just got it yesterday and wouldnt mind using it a bit, y'know
