Best Cheapo Pedals
What are some pedals you could find easily used at your local Guitar Center or pawn shop for real cheap that are super underrated OR effects that a lot of people may hate on but are actually great. I don't know if this is clear, but I mean like unexpected gem pedals.
PS sorry if there was already a thread like this.

Re: Best Cheapo Pedals
Just my kind of thread.
I will have to come back another time though.
....Oh, sod it, here's a few to start with.
I'd propose:
PHASER: - both are analogue ones.....
Akai Intelliphase. analogue phaser, with optional touch sensitivity control. discontinued. get one if you see one!

Visual Sound Oil Can Analogue phaser - based on a mid-70s EHX Small Stone. recent/current

TREMOLO:
Nobels TR-X Tremolo.

CHORUS: - all are analogue ones....
Aria CH-5 Chorus. from Aria's mid-1980s metal cased series (not the later plastic stuff). made in Japan. analogue chorus.

Pearl CH-2 Chorus. mid-1980s, made in Japan. analogue chorus.
oh, and....
Guyatone MC2 & MC3 (micro series)
Danelectro DC-1 Cool Cat Chorus (N.B. the big cased older thing, not related to the current Cool cat series)
Dod Chorus FX-65
Biyang/GFS CH-8 . recent/current
OVERDRIVE / DISTORTION:
Daphon (aka Chorrd) E20OD Overdrive . SD1 or TS clone. recent/current
Danelectro Daddy-O
oh, and...
Nady TD1 (2000s one) - tube overdrive. discontinued
Pignose Detonator discontinued (Red Llama type thing)
Pignose Piggy-in-box. discontinued

FUZZ:
Guyatone FZ2
Behringer SF300 recent/current
EQ:
GLX EQ100 (aka Beta Aivin etc) recent/current
Daphon E20GE recent/current
DELAY:
Tonerider Analog Delay recent but discontinued. get one if you can!

and...
Dod FX90 analogue delay. 80s/90s?
Dod FX96 analogue delay. 90s/2000s?
Behringer VD400 analogue delay. recent/current
OTHER:
Dod Vibro Thang
Behringer US600 (Boss PS5 knockoff) recent/current
---
Oh, and...
UNIVIBE types:
Danelectro Chicken Salad
Danelectro Vibe recent/current
-----
^ Yeah, I ended ended up adding rather more than I originally intended! Oops.
P.S. don't tell anyone else about the above, it's a secret. no-one else is reading, right?
P.p.s. For clarification purposes, an Ibanez DE7, a Danelectro French Toast or Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus, or Nobels ODR-1, for example, wouldn't meet the criteria of this thread cos, although they're cheap things, they're already too well generally known/regarded, yeah/no ?
ppps. added some stuff

Re: Best Cheapo Pedals
a lot of the old DOD's sound killer. the delays, the classic fuzz, the choruses (i usually hate chorus, but these sound more like Die Kreuzen or MX-80 than cheesy new wave, or whatever). yes, they have really shitty switches (which are pretty simple to replace), but they have a ton of modding potential & sound great to begin with.

Do DigiTech X-Series count? You can get a Digidelay for like $40 used. The corksniffers hate 'em but I love how it sounds in a band setting. I think I've seen some love for 'em around here. I personally think the Ibanez LA Metal also sounds good at appropriate settings.

+1 for dod products.
If you aren't too much of a purist, the delta lab delay is quite solid. I prefer it to any boss counterpart.

Danelectro. Tuna melt. Simple tremolo that works just fine. I also had a corned beef and a french toast that were pretty good. I like that they name their stuff after food....

I'm not a fan of behringer, byiang or mooer, so I won't recommend any of their effects.
I'm guessing it's no longer a secret that boss/dano/ibanez/guyatone/dod make a ton of great bang for the buck peds, right?

Ibanez PM7 forever. So many tricks in that little dude.
Digitech hyperphase has some cool glichy sounds in the trigger modes. & who could forget the DOD death metal? I shouldn't have mine.

Yeah I'm really impressed with the Tuna Melt too. How was the Corned Beef? I heard it was a really loose, low dispersal reverb closer to a slapback, which to me sounds like it could be interesting.lapsteel wrote:Danelectro. Tuna melt. Simple tremolo that works just fine. Ibanez De7 is an incredible delay that can usually be had for $50. The echo mode is just fantastic. Beats nearly every delay double its price and up.

Re: Best Cheapo Pedals
Great thread, I've been on the hunt for cheap pedals, lots of garage sales this time of year, so far I've picked up an 80's cutec flanger, a dod fx20b phaser, digitech rp 100, and a digitech death metal,I'm liking the phaser and flanger, but all these pedals now make up a pretty interesting feedback loop for my 3 year old to play with, and me of course

Re: Best Cheapo Pedals
i was going to post about this. i recently picked one up at a garage sale for $5. fucking awesome. i have a couple of delays and don't really need another, but i was thinking, how can i not buy this for $5. i'll kick myself. i'll probably eventually use it for a home practice board that i may put together. anyway, it sounds great. agreed on the echo mode. it would be a great deal at $50. i'd been curious cause i'd always heard they were killer for such a cheap pedal. and they really are.colossus wrote:Ibanez De7 is an incredible delay that can usually be had for $50. Re: Best Cheapo Pedals
Marshall Guv'nor 2. I got one for like $30 at a guitar center and it's the best bass distortion I've ever owned and probably ever will. Sounds awful on guitar though.
