DL-4 double preset mod?

Post by frigid midget »

More of a mod rather than a full blown diy project from scratch, but I figured it'd still be okay to ask it here.

I know this has probably been covered a zillion times before, but I'd still really appreciate a dummy proof explanation of how to pull this off.

I tried the super easy approach of simply hooking up a switch between the 'tip' and 'sleeve' of the expression pedal input, without even adding a led...

Shouldn't that allow me to save extra settings for each preset, and thus -sorta- give me twice as much presets?

To make me look even more stupid: I actually performed this mod before, years ago. Followed a little schematic I found online, and it worked like a charm. I don't remember what I exactly did back then, so I can't tell what I'm doing differently now.

I don't suppose I should've lift the tip/sleeve lugs on the exp input, disconnecting them from the pcb?

Thanks a lot.

That's one of the schematics I used actually.

I must've done some sort of silly noob mistake converting to an onboard version, with the switch hooked up to the pedal's exp pedal input. I would think it's basically the exact same thing, but I wouldn't mind a dummy proof schematic that shows the wiring on the switch.

Like I said, I didn't use a led, nor any resistors. It worked fine when I did that to my old DL4, I don't remember using a resistor there...:s

did you see this one

Seems you can use SPST switch and the curent coming out of the expression pedal jack to light the LED, no battery necessary.

When the switch is off, the Line 6 sees about 3 volts on the tip connection, and that lights the LED, and when you turn the switch on, it shorts out the LED and the Line 6 sees 0v on the tip connection, just like what happens at the two extremes of their expression pedal, so I guess that it's correct to use no resistor/led while the tip is shorted to sleeve (switch on), but I think they must be there while the SPST switch is turned off.

Cheers.

I'll try that 10K resistor than. Can't see another reason why it wouldn't work, other than a dead solder joint, which seems REALLY unlikely.
