Re: The Video Game thread
Far Cry 3 is much better in that respect, providing I ignore the terrible plot and psychedelic missions.
If I want to shoot people in the head and laugh, it is everything FC2 should have been, and for the $8 it cost on sale was well worth it.

Re: The Video Game thread
I hated the protagonist and all of his friends from the get-go. But the gameplay was good.
The expansion for it looked pretty fun, too...

I only played Farcry 3. I liked the gameplay but I hated the "boss" fights.
Also I wish you could have just been Vaas. That guy was the best part of the game

I think I'm in the minority that liked FarCry 2 a lot.

Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

Still lamenting my Borderlands 2 file loss (150 hours), but I found a nice game file complete with legendary weapons. My (new/reborn) Gaige is finally level 50 and i'm kind of cheating by acquiring all the weapons and putting them on my character. It's all good, I originally had all of them but now I don't have to farm them all again. Thank God.

I liked FC2 in a lot of respects but that weapon breakage to me was more annoying than the checkpoint silliness. I learned to just drive through them like a boss and not care much.

Re: The Video Game thread
Weapon degradation in DS2 can also be avoided by being summoned into someone elses game and successful defeat of a boss. I know a few people that have done a no bonfire run and that's how they got through it.

The check points were the most annoying aspect, for me. I actually liked the gun degradation. I wish the fire perpetuation in 3 was as wild as 2.

Re: The Video Game thread
The gun degradation was a serious downer because I liked to stay out for extended periods and there was no way to repair outside of shops.
Otherwise, I could have dealt with all of it - I can ignore the moralizing plot, the malaria pills, the checkpoints.

Oh, god. I forgot about the malaria pills.

Yeah, it's a game that begged for one final polishing pass.
Yeah, I get people get sick from malaria. I get that weapons break in the jungle. But...I can repair vehicles that have lit themselves on fire with a wrench and a little patience in the game...but not a goddamn rifle.

Re: The Video Game thread
My friends and I became notorious in Xbox Live FC2. I remember getting a lot of hate mail
I was absolutely terrible with every weapon...except for the Carl Gustav. Didn't even know you could guide it until a few weeks in, and then things just got ridiculous. It was amazing to fire it straight into the air, then manually aim at some punk on a roof or behind cover and watch him get rocked. If it was a miss up close, running away and spraying 'em with the mini Uzi would solve that problem.
My friend would always take the automatic shotgun (AA-12?) with the IEDs, run up into the towers on Last Bastion, plant, jump out of the window, detonate and kill a few people at a time. So good. The range on those was way too long.

Ah, I only do PC gaming which changes this exponentially.
I also only do WoW for multiplayer stuff generally, I play my games to avoid people!

Re: The Video Game thread
Yeah, I only played on Xbox Live 'cause my friends were on every night. It's pretty high up there as far as the shittiest gaming communities go.
I'm a big fan of team-based games, but it's more of a love/hate relationship now because, like Somethingawful's APB thread so wonderfully sums up, the highs are high and the lows are very frequent. My best gaming memories were created when we had a great team going. It can be absolutely glorious, but it's more often absolutely crap. I'm not a point hound or whatever, I just want to have fun and come out feeling like it wasn't a huge waste of time. Gotta have teamwork for that.
It's tough going if you don't have a friend to play alongside regularly. Most online gamers are shitheads.
Also, any online game should seriously have a mandatory tutorial that must be passed prior to playing if the gamemode is anything more complex than "SHOOTIN MANS AND SCREENSHOTTIN YR SCOAR".

Re: The Video Game thread
Yea, it's why I do the MMO thing for my serious gaming.
I've done it at a ludicrously high level for a long time and it makes me happy.
LOLKILLSHOT doesn't do much for me.
